Did Oraj Anu get drafted? What a weird situation with him.
Everything worked out great for Kumar Rocker the 3rd pick. He is gonna be a star. I hope one day we trade for him.

Catchers seem to get overpaid. I really hope we sign Marques Johnson. One last nugget. Killen I've met several times over the years. I reached out to find out any intel. I did not find out much. Only that he has been interested in going Louisville for over two years and has been excited to go there. He is a nice, smart, considerate kid who LOVES baseball. He also has an adviser in case a MLB team gives him an offer. He also was in Louisville the day we drafted him. (WISN News) briefly mentioned him last night.

Toboni admitted, essentially, on the media availability yesterday that Kilen will be a tough sign. I can't see him signing unless something goes sideways with Anthony or Brannon.

Catchers seem to get overpaid. . Catchers are scarce. Look no further than the organization as an example. When I was a kid and first started watching the game it seemed like everyone had a decent catcher. Not so much now.

I feel like that has a lot to do with the knowledge on career lengths and body damage catching does. Just go play 1st base instead and you also make more money for the most part too

RB used to be a glamour position in football, until people figured out they had short careers, so now they play WR instead as an example. Not sure how Pudge Fisk was able to be productive all those years behind the plate.

why does our draft history screen have 150000 as limit for picks 11-20 and all the other draft posts say 125000?

Not sure how Pudge Fisk was able to be productive all those years behind the plate. That's one of life's biggest mysteries. He had a 5 WAR season at age 42 (to be fair he only caught 54 games). Although Ivan Rodriguez caught more games and innings. Fisk had a lot of injuries where he missed a half season.

I think I’ve posted this same thought for the last couple years.
One of my favorite things about this site is watching the “Draft History” tab for the current year get filled in between draft day and the signing deadline. There is something satisfying to me to see the names get color coded (or bolded for this year) as the players officially sign. Right now the Draft History tab is essentially blank beyond identifying the basic data of each draftee (which is still a lot of information). I can’t wait to follow this sheet as the signings get going.
PSA FOR THOSE NEW TO THE SITE…the draft history tab is at the very top of the home page, three tabs over from the “Forum “ tab. If you are new, realize that this site has TONS of information beyond a message board (I know Hatfield has mentioned this from time to time). Surf around it and you’ll be glad you did.

When will the signings be posted? At least Donlan and Rogers supposedly have signed. Do we wait for the official signing reported by the Sox? Besides the actual games this is the most exciting part of the year.

Besides the actual games this is the most exciting part of the year. When the signings happen. I tweeted about this yesterday - there is a difference between agreeing to terms (yes I will sign for x) and signing (agreement made official by physically signing the contract, sometimes pending results of physicals, drug tests, etc.). Players and families, and by extension, local newspaper writers, do not appreciate the difference often. The team will usually wait and announce the signings in groups, but the nice thing with social media is we often know now when pen has been put to paper.

Not sure how Pudge Fisk was able to be productive all those years behind the plate. one thing about Fisk is that he realized his hitting was much worse later in games so he decided he was just not going to run to back up first on every ground ball. He thought that was taking too much out of him. It may have cost the Sox an occasional base, but it helped him hit better later in games (as in game six!) and may have helped prolong his career

Does a twitter picture of a guy with pen in hand count as signing for these purposes, if you feel confident in terms you've already heard? Or do you wait for team group announcement? And if I remember, you tend to have to dig a bit to get the Rd 11-20 bonuses if they are under the $125k soft cap, right?

If by "have to dig" you mean "simply go to the SoxProspects draft history page," you're exactly right!Didn't read nearly closely enough. Sorry about that. Don't worry, we have ways.

I think he means you and the staff have to dig with the people you know to get what the bonuses are in order to put them onto the page, because anything under $125K might not be reported in exact detail.

Yeah I realized that as you must've posted this. My b. FWIW, I wasn't referring to the site earlier. If we can get every single IFA bonus, getting every draft bonus ain't a thing. Although it was very interesting last year that every single Sox pick after the 10th got at least $100k. That's new and I really liked it - sort of a nest egg for them to get their careers started. The only one who kind of got screwed is Litwicki. I'm interested to see if they go back to giving some of the day 2 guys near-nothing bonuses in order to sign the bigger fish. They haven't really done that since 2018 (which is admittedly just 2 drafts in the interim given the truncated 2020 edition).

Looks like all the slot amounts got shifted just prior to the draft. Red Sox gained $4,300 on their total bonus pool.
