If this team isn't selling then whomever made that decision should be fired. Probably Henry. I think Bloom is for whatever makes sense which would look like selling right now. That's what I'm leaning towards and this is just absurd. "We're only 5-7 games out of a 3rd Wild Card spot and under .500, but we've got a great feeling about it!" Henry has to rip off the band-aid. It'll hurt the bottom line, but if the team is better in 2023 and great in 2024 he'll make more in the process. This middling stuff is the absolute worst. If they want to get guys that can help this and next? Fine. You trade JD, you're worse, so why not just sell them all off? If you want to compete, buy then. Don't limp into a playoff aspiration, go get guys. Make Xander a realistic offer, if you even really want him. If he doesn't accept, trade. Because then you'll know where you are with him. I'm really nervous of them doing the wrong thing, which is nothing or barely anything impactful.

But at this point, I would hope Bloom knows what it would take to keep Xander and whether or not the Sox will have interest at that level. We'll see what happens over the next week. By next Monday, if the Sox are 6 back of the 3rd WC and have 4 teams in front of them to get to the 3rd WC, it will be interesting to see if it becomes a sell instead of they're in it for the playoffs.

I don’t think Henry or anybody in ownership has anything to do with the decisions to buy or sell. Maaaaybe Sam Kennedy but that even feels like a stretch. My guess would be the only baseball related decisions they are actually involved with would be the mega-contracts

I don’t know John Henry, but I’m confused by the voices saying he is forcing Bloom’s hand and the voices saying he’s checked out and more interested in other endeavors.

If so, then ownership must be weighing in currently

We'll, tonight, I'm hoping for...
A baseball game.
I now reside in the country of low...no, even... expectations.

It is criminal that Cordero is at 1b. He can’t hit and is out of position. Absolutely criminal.

Any team the is playing Franchy Cordero regularly can’t be trying to win

I keep getting thrown off by the fact that the only team wearing the Red Sox' colors in this game are the Guardians.
In other news, Franchy is not remotely adequate as a defensive first baseman. I know everyone thinks Dalbec and his averagish bat is the most nightmarish sight to ever befall a baseball diamond, but I submit that it does in fact get worse than that.

“Dalbec fires to Cordero” has to be the saddest song in baseball.

We need to see the end of the following eras by the trading deadline
Franchy era Bobby era JBJ era
At least we ended the Hansel era

Any team the is playing Franchy Cordero regularly can’t be trying to win Franchy Cordero and Josh Winckowski are the most awesomest players every negotiated for by a GM who traded away two years of control of a 12.0 (and counting) fWAR player 1-time All-Star player who the GM's team could really, really use right now. I mean, if "most awesomest" = "human black holes for WAR"

There’s 3 runs. I think that’s the max they can allow while still hoping to win.

Announcers going on about the incredibly inane statistic that the team that scores first tends to win moire often than not is also, I would submit, worse than Dalbec's offense. (Though not perhaps worse than Eovaldi has looked since the all-star break.)
