I am trying to figure out what the strategy is - what are the Sox doing with these last games? Roster pitchers who don't belong (Brasier, Familia) getting innings (thankfully Familia is gone - but why not elevate German)? Why get Familia in the first place - Phila, fighting for a playoff spot, knew he was cooked - as did the Mets previously. Why not Kelly last night in a big spot? Then - Hill, Eovaldi (soon) - why not Winck? Seabold? Why is JD getting ABs? Plawecki? Just seems to me that they can get a jump on figuring out what they have while they play out the season. Seems they are caught between thinking they can still sneak in, and realizing they can't, but the in game and roster moves are a bit baffling. I just don't see any real stakes to these questions you keep bringing up. I suppose they could bench a couple of respected veterans in JDM and Plawecki and get a few more PAs for Wong and... Duran, or something? But that would seem a bit dickish, and the value of "finding out what they have" just seems very marginal.
As for German, I'm sure his time will come but he still has only 37 IP at AAA. Maybe they have stuff they still want him to work on; maybe they just don't want to start the service clock in a lost cause season.
I think what the complaint boils down to is that you would find the games more interesting if they made these moves. Which is perfectly understandable. But the team has other motivations and incentives, and that should be understandable as well.

People have gotten a little ahead of themselves with regards to German IMO
There is reason to think he could get better, but his AAA xFIP this year is a little worse than Kaleb Ort's.

I am no fan of the “plan,” but… I mean, Duran and Dalbec got huge chances. Casas is up and playing. Bello. Whitlock. Crawford.
Grousing about German is really picking nits. I don’t see how a different roster right now matters much. Familia pitched probably because, well, someone had to. Strahm won’t likely be back either, so what is the difference? Danish? Who cares?
I would be mad if they weren’t playing Casas. If Downs were healthy, maybe see what he could do… but otherwise I don’t see any real urgency. Play it out. Reevaluate.

Fine. You can say bring in the 27-year old rookie, but the first time he goes nuclear, he’ll be getting the same treatment around here. There was a time people loved Brasier. Disagree. The board is patient with kids showing what they have. It is NOT patient with blown out vets being run out in big games. Kelly has already proven himself to be effective. Last night would have been a good test. Familia was....a waste. Lol it absolutely is not

On a serious note, I saw people taking umbrage that Judge's HR quest isn't getting the coverage it deserves, and I have to wonder if recency bias towards record breaking achievements due to past performance enhancement accusations on others makes these kind of things ho-hum for the average fan.

I think there's a large number of people who don't care about the 61 mark anymore.

Terrible at bats. Belllo got twice the number of pitches thrown.

Youkilis talking about the number of times he got hit by a pitch. I looked and it was 104 times in ten years, most in his seven-year prime

Yikes. lackbuster efforts from defense. Refsnyder didn't really look like had any sense of urgency in getting to that ball, but he's generally been pretty good in the OF. Pham, on the other hand has not impressed me in the slightest out there. He doesn't really seem to have any speed on the grass. I'm not sure if it's effort, per se, but it was pretty clear he was not going to get close enough to that pop up to hold the runners from getting to 2nd and 3rd.

The average sports fan just doesn’t care about baseball anymore, in general. NFL is still the king and MLB was passed by the NBA long ago, as well. Even MMA is probably more popular at this point. If a guy on the friggin’ Yankees isn’t getting enough attention, this is probably part of the reason why. Also, 60 & 61 aren’t as magical as they used to be.

is it just a law of the universe that Bello has to receive the worst defense possible every time he pitches?
