Bello and Mata is going to be a tandem we brag about as Sox fans someday.... Hopefully Whitlock can keep up.

This is farcical. It's clear from the radar that the rain's not close to stopping. The game doesn't matter in the standings, and both teams still have to fly out tonight.

It was inevitable, but the Sox officially eliminated from the playoffs tonight.

Swept in a 4 game series; outscored by 6 total runs. Would have been 5 if not for Refsnyder recovering the team's midseason popup-dropping form right at the end.
But... good stuff in this series from the rookies and Judge didn't homer. Not bad!

Happened to see that Brusdar Graterol has a .196 BAA and 2.96ERA this year. Didn’t the Sox end up with Downs instead of Graterol in the Mookie deal because they didn’t like his medicals?

And we were far better - only 0 for 1 with RISP! Got to find those rays of light!

Yeah I think the argument is over at this point. The Graterol/Verdugo package was the best for Betts. Connor Wong is really the only cloud separating the two deals. Graterol is probably the closer for the Dodgers moving forward. While he might not be the best closer in MLB, I think he is at least a good closer. We'll see what happens come playoff time.

Yes - the fear was that he'd end up in the bullpen. Which he has. You can regret Downs being the second guy in that deal but it's not like Graterol was The One Who Got Away.
I'd be curious if an option C was ever discussed there...

I’m definitely not suggesting that Graterol is anything great. But he’s certainly better than Downs and would have been a nice bullpen piece this year(along with the aforementioned Ottavino). Add those guys to Houck, Schreiber and Whitlock and that bullpen suddenly looks much better. As for option C, I still wonder if any of Will Smith, Dustin May or Gonsolin were ever discussed. I know Lux was probably considered untouchable at that time.

Doubt it, Dustin May was a 60 grade, top 15 prospect at the time, and both Gonsolin and Smith burst onto the scene fairly loudly in 2019 and were clear parts of the Dodgers future plans. Maybe you get one of Gonsolin or Smith, but you probably don't get Verdugo or anything else.

Maybe some people here think that Graterol is a closer but the Dodgers sure don't think so. He's mostly a 7th and 8th inning guy and while he has finished a few games, he's far from a closer in waiting. He also missed 6 weeks (Jul/Aug, shoulder) and then after 4 appearances went back on the shelf for 4 more weeks (elbow inflammation). But yeah, the Sox look stupid questioning his medicals.
Maybe the Sox bullpen wouldn't have blown quite as many games if he was in there instead of Brasier or Sawamura but he wouldn't have made that big of a difference this season.

Wished they could have gotten him. I wonder about him or Andy Pages. Thought Gray was a possibility at the time.

That series was a smashing success. No Judge homer means no Sox pitcher posterized. Nothing else matters.

Better draft position, not embarrassed with run differential, young guys looking pretty good, no Judge home run, and shutout Fox/Apple/ESPN from broadcasting history. Accomplished everything in one 4 game series!

How many innings do people think Bello will be able to start next year?
The max he's ever thrown was this year at 149 (and counting); before that was 117, but that was back in 2019.

We had another year filled with outlier RISPY business when the rest of the hitting was pretty good, and many of us kept waiting for it to work out as the season went on...but it never did. 2015 maybe?
