By no stretch would I defend what little I know about his past however we are talking about his Jr. High past, should be have to carry a scarlet letter the rest of his life for stupidity he commited as a very young teen? Cam checked out his past and feels he deserves another chance. Shouldn't most people get a second chance? I think he should get a second chance to make a life for himself, i view living an elite lifestyle playing professional sports as a privilege though and what he did imo eliminates that privilege. This wasn’t a one time incident, he more or less tortured a handicapped black kid for a period of like 7 years and hasn’t really shown genuine remorse for it according to the victims family. This includes physically beating him, calling him the N word, and giving him a piece of candy that he wiped in a urinal To an organization that says they pride themselves on character and diversity this should be a disqualifying situation . Would’ve rather they had just gotten Tony DeAngelo a couple years ago if they were ok with scumbags. Bergeron seemed awfully uncomfortable being trotted out there to do SweeNeely’s damage control too. Probably wondering why tf he came back for minimum dollars to do this BS for those two morons. Even beyond all of the specifics- why make this signing right now when there is so much positivity around the team? Now there is a media firestorm, both local and national/international. Unfathomably dumb. Yeah your point about DeAngelo is the thought I had. I'm 100% against this and would have been 100% against DeAngelo, but at least DeAngelo was a proven talent. Was this really worth it for a 4th rounder? I can't even understand the move from like a cold unempathetic point of view.

Unfathomably dumb. I hear what you say and stand by my original post. The only real issue i have with your response is the elite living part, but allowed to still live his life. I don't understand your rational here. Again, never going to defend his actions in any way, deplorable really. However considering his age, and seeing that Cam Neely carefully reviewed the situation and the kid extensively, if he thinks he deserves a second chance then as far as I'm concerned so be it. That said anything he did wrong going forward should already be considered a third strike and not a second. People can change and we all have changed greatly since we were 14.

I didn’t know the backstory . That was terrible. This kid got help but somehow he should repair what he did. Maybe with his contract he can make the kids life better find out what he needs even do it anonymously people won’t know about it but you repair your inner self. Put out good karma .

That is basically the only way I can feel ok with him in the org, is if he gives a massive chunk of his entry level deal to the victim

CDJ , the only thing if he does it on the down low we would never find out in theory. But you understand. You can’t go to counseling and your getting the “atta boy” slap on the back I’m proud of you for getting help. In this case you have to do more. Even if the kid never forgives him. That’s the kids right to never move on from that crap he indurred.
This crap is like high school. The dumb kids make fun of kids who are needy. Because your different.
On a side note 1.6 billion . Maybe tonight.

Just a complete and total shit show caused by the front office for literally no reason. Fire them. Neely and Sweeney. Goodbye.

Before his past surfaced he was considered a top 10 pick and when it came to light what he did to Joni Meyer-Crothers he still was considered late first round pick, but the backlash from the media was overwhelming he slipped to the 4th round. He is a talented offensive defenseman and when you have the worst farm system in the NHL the Bruins felt like he was worth the chance. I will always have a hard time rooting for him, but hope he becomes a better person from this lesson in life.

It seems the players are awfully disappointed with the signing, notably Bergeron and Foligno

Looks like the NHL is going to bar him indefinitely. You have to assume the B's looked closely into his past and present. No one condones his past. Looks like Boston will stash him in the minors until further notice. So here's where I am on it. We're a nation of second chances, especially if/when a person offers remorse/regret/apologies. The B's will keep him on a very short leash. He'll really need to show contrition publicly, including directly to the victim and the family. If Miller chooses to, he could be shining example of a redeemed life. As to those who say playing professional sports is a privilige, I see the point, though I suspect the adverse publicity would be a big hinderance no matter what sort of semi professional job he'd ever hope to get. It's a PR/culture issue for the NHL, which is under a microscope vs Miller picking up a job as a supervisor at a manufacturing plant in the middle of nowhere.

Neeley and Sweeney royally screwed up. They should admit it and terminate this contract. I have a disabled child who is always going to feel different even with all of the good kids in her life. My heart goes out to him and his family for dealing with this asshole, I am really pissed off at this move. This was not an isolated incident, it went on for years.
Ps. I apologize for my swearing but this really hits home.

My sister is the same way and if she was a victim like this I’d cave the offenders skull in with a bat

The guy reached out to the mother and said this has nothing to do with hockey. Than we have the signing to the Bruins. He reached out on social media. Give me a break.
One of the sports shows on the radio talked about it. Neely should of shot this down.
The B’s lost a tough one. On the next game.

Neely was the driving force behind the signing it seems- even Sweeney seems lukewarm on it at best The team and Miller even tried to downplay what he did in a statement by referring to it as “an incident”. Longest incident of all time

The whole Miller ordeal just reinforces how there is such a human tendency to screw something up. We've seen it with countless teams, countless times, in countless different ways.
Was there a carry over to last night's lackluster performance? Who knows...maybe...

The other crazy thing is that we’re talking about a kid who got the boot from a team devoid of any talent, in a market where he could’ve probably flown under the radar. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TELLING BUT WE HAVE NEANDERTHALS WITH CTE RUNNING OUR FRONT OFFICE

They pissed off a LOT of people (including their core leaders) for a guy who may never be eligible to play a game.
And now, in the best case scenario, this guy is going to get a serious chunk of money.
