If Whitlock makes it as a starter, his contract is looking like a bargain

Meanwhile, people be trashing videos of Chris Sale running sprints in Fort Myers.
I guess it won't matter, because I'm sure Cortes and Montas' injuries won't linger - and plus the Yankees signed Carlos Rodon and he's a lock to stay healthy.

The Yankees will sell a major portion of their farm for another starter by mid-season. Their bullpen is even in worse shape.

Fascinating. I knew this story but not in as much detail. Read all 3 tweets:

I'm pretty confident that the MFYs will skate more often than not.

Weird deal. Options in it.

Tough luck for Montas to go down that close to securing the bag. At least he made it far enough to get a lot of money by normal people standards.
Yankee fans gonna be real annoyed if Ken Waldichuk has a nice career.

Woof, that trade will go down as a rather big swing and a miss for the Yankees. Just read it's possible he misses the entire season and is a FA after the end of the year. They gave up some decent pieces for 8 mostly ugly starts from Montas and whatever he gives them if anything this season. It's the Yankees so somehow some magical way they'll find someone to plug in that can be decent but their rotation after Cole doesn't exactly scream WS contender to me. Edit: Totally forgot about Rodon so that's on me but still their depth definitely is taking a hit with this injury.

As the tweet says, probably nothing but still can't be giving the Rangers and the fans warm and fuzzy feelings on their $37M per year man.

They were fielding a very dodgy lineup for long stretches last season, they didn't really do anything to upgrade it besides Bader, and now everyone is a year older. Meanwhile their rotation was uncommonly healthy - they got 790 IP from their top 5 starters (counting both Montgomery and Montas along with Severino, Taillon, Cortes, and Cole - for comparison the Red Sox got just 546 IP from Sale, Eovaldi, Hill, Wacha, and Pivetta). It'll be all but impossible to pull that off again if Montas misses the season.

His peripherals last year made him a top 5 pitcher easy, but there’s the obvious injury risk. More intriguing, his K/9 was almost 2 lower on the road that at home in SF (Oracle Park). Going from a pitcher haven to Yankee Stadium will definitely knock him down. Then there’s Nestor and his innings load from last year. This division has so much volatility in it…

The yankees haven`t impressed me much except the SP. Now with Montas down, I don`t think they make the playoffs. They were fringy already.

Burnes lost his arbitration, brewers win over 750k in pay
Idk I would’ve just paid my young ace the 750k instead of argue against him in court

Would have provided more left-handed relief certainty for the Sox.

At $7.5, he pretty much ends any financial wiggle room you have the rest of the season

Weird deal. The club option is pretty close to irrelevant. Even if he has a good year and the Padres want him on 2/32, the odds are extremely low that it'll be much of a bargain.
So it's like a 1 year/7.5 million deal with downside risk. Most likely Wacha is fine value for the year and then maybe he opts in to one more year to hang on to those other two options. But if Wacha reaches the end of the line, then the deal gets kinda ugly.

Would have provided more left-handed relief certainty for the Sox. How much "certainty" is provided by a by a 34 year old with a career 3.95 FIP in 144 relief innings?
