If the Red Sox ever did that to their bonafide ace I would become a fan of a different team

Not saying the Brewers were smart in what they did but it's seemed that between Burnes and Woodruff they'd probably only be able to keep one around long term. Perhaps in a strange manner this was them deciding on Woodruff? Either way you'd think you'd just pay your ace the $750K extra rather than piss him off which it sounds like they have done.
Half jokingly I wonder what the prospect cost might be for Burnes next offseason/the deadline if they're not in the race? I have no reason to think they won't be in the race though.

Package probably has to start with Mayer I would imagine

Perhaps the farm will take a nice leap forward and they'll have the chips to get him without dealing Mayer.

Would have provided more left-handed relief certainty for the Sox. How much "certainty" is provided by a by a 34 year old with a career 3.95 FIP in 144 relief innings? Is there a formula that says greater certainty is created by increased mass of uncertains? Certainly at some point some uncertain becaomes a certain?

But would Moore be an upgrade on any of their present projected bullpen arms? Maybe he'd be a slight upgrade on whoever the last guy turns out to be. I think he'd be a downgrade on the two lefties they already have.

FWIW Hunter Renfroe’s arb win with the Angels just finalized at $11.9. Is he really worth more than versatile Kiké, slimmed down Verdugo, masher Duvall or hitter Turner? We don’t know how he will fare against Yoshida’s $15M against the cap, but we will know very soon.

Elvis Andrus to the other Sox for $3 million Does not really make sense to me that he couldn't get better, including from us. Is there a horrible medical everybody in baseball knows about or something?
I mean, the Dodgers gave up a decent prospect to pay Miguel Rojas 1/5. That's better than signing Andrus?

He isn't my favorite choice, but I would certainly have taken Andrus for $3M.

So much for the reports andrus was only interested in a team where he could play SS. He'll be playing 2nd for them. I get signing Chang for slightly above the minimum however I see Mondesi's contract is a hair above 3 Mil. Who would folks rather have andrus for the 3 mil or Mondesi? Wouldn't be surprised if either one of them proves to be more valuable and on flipside wouldn't surprise me if neither really provide much value at all. In Mondesi's case it'd likely be due to injury and in Andrus case due to age and regression.

Dunno. There was talk that he was looking for two years. Maybe his agent misjudged the market.
I never got the appeal of Andrus. He's had an OPS over .700 in only four of the last 12 months (2 seasons) and he's going into his 15th campaign. At some point the defense is no longer going to pick up the slack.
EDIT: I definitely prefer the 27-yo Mondesi to the 34-yo Andrus. At least Mondesi gives you some upside to dream on.

Probably wants to be a guaranteed starter and that was the most money from a team willing to guarantee that If Story were to come back this season Andrus would probably end the year on the bench Def agree with what you’re saying though- that dodgers scenario in particular is pretty strange

Woah. Everyone's estimates of Andrus' value was *way* off. What happened there?

I think the question is probably Duvall vs Andrus more than Andrus vs Mondesi or Chang
