Doesn't sound like Cora's job is in dire jeopardy if the guy in line for the throne calls him "one of the best managers in baseball" twice. I noticed this line as well...not sure what to make of it but there certainly seems to be something behind it. Seems like it is known that Cora is not happy and O'Halrahan is trying to reassure him. Is it felt Cora is moving on after the season? Did Cora give the front office an ultimatum, him or me?

This comports with what Sean McAdam said in July: "Bloom was Kenndy's guy and the only candidate he presented to ownership after the search. Cora is Henry and Werner's guy. There's no doubt about that."

Now that the Red Sox have moved away from Chaim Bloom, the key question if we are being honest is who ever the next guy hired, will the owners return to spending like the upper echelon of clubs. In 2023 the Red Sox were 13th in MLB Payroll, $181,207,484. In 2018 when they won the series, they were 1st in MLB Payroll, $240,000,000. A top Chief Baseball Officer will be hired but unless the ownership group commits to once again be a top 5 club in payroll then we will continue to struggle fielding a winning MLB roster.

Looking at SporTrac which I don't know accurate they are but feel like they're at least in the ballpark. They have Mets at 343M, Yankees 278M, Pads 253M, Rangers 247M, Phils 245M, Dodgers 238M, Astros 236M, Angels 230M. That's the top 8 in the league right there, do I expect the Sox to be up around the Mets, Yankees and maybe even Padres spending? Probably not, certainly not the first two anyway. I don't see why they wouldn't approach the 240M range though. The LT for 2024 is slated to be 237M though so maybe they push it up to around 250M. The other thing is, looking at this list. Obviously there is a heck of a lot more to building a squad than just saying well we spent X $s. So I don't really care much if they are top 5 in the league in payroll. I want them to spend money but spend wisely and build a good squad which I'm sure everyone on here would agree with.

The good thing about a high budget is you can take a few FA swing-and-misses (a FEW) and not be up a creek. David Price is good for one year out of 4? Worth it to carry him. Yoshida is a DH instead of LF? just makes him a useful overpay. Bloom didn't take many of those chances. Though I also can't cite one I'd have picked at the time that has been okay or better.

Given that Bloom has been fired and ownership is being discussed in the two other new threads, we're going to lock this thread.
