Jeff Howe says expectation is Reiff will win a starting job. Makes sense in the context of other signings (they HAVE backups if that's what they really wanted) but still a little surprised. Pretty Belichick approach to Tackle though. Yeah. Seems like the hope is to give Klemm a bunch of candidates to coach up and/or work with.

Patriots interested in Nicholas Morrow, per reports Googling “who’s Nicholas Morrow”… Speedy LB. Bears leading tackler.

Part of the goal of free agency is to ensure that you don't have a gaping hole that you absolutely need to fill via the draft (because you never know how draft boards will fall, etc.). They've done a solid job of doing that at tackle so far.

Unfortunately, with the Patriots track record of drafting WR I'm not so sure. On one hand they got Meyers as a UDFA and struck gold with him and his ability to get you first downs and move the chains. On the other, this is a team with a track record of drafting Aaron Dobson, N'Keal Harry, Chad Jackson, Brandon Tate, Taylor Price.... even if they were good in that department it's hard to call any draft pick a suitable replacement, and that's if they even take him as they have holes up and down the roster. I don't think Mac is the guy, but I guess if they want the assurance he's not, they need to surround him and so far they've taken a step back, but it's early-ish. I just don't see the upside in this team with a division as loaded as this (which is still bizarre to say after all these years of none of them being able to figure anything out). I’d argue adding O’Brien and Klemm is greater than losing Meyers and Patricia. Not to mention getting Jonnu off the field and hopefully getting Bourne on it. I agree that O'Brien is a massive upgrade over Patricia, but I don't pin all of Mac's problems on the OC either. It's also less about the Patriots as a whole, but just how good everyone else is that they have to play. Losing their go-to guy for 1st downs is a substantial loss and don't understand why the Patriots would part ways with him making so little. They also lost McCourty which is going to hurt a bit, especially in leadership.

I would agree, but I really would like a high end tackle in free agency, a veteran signing who can be a bridge or a really good emergency starter and a draft pick because they need two and want to have the draft pick earn it. Not going to pretend I know who is and isn't a great tackle, but it sounds like there are, or were, a few really good ones.

They just signed two veteran fringe starter/good backup options in Reiff and McDermott and a younger, higher-upside option in Anderson, so I think they've roughly done that already. They can still draft a first-round tackle, but it's now a nice to have and not a must have.

FWIW (less to some, I would imagine), Bedard thinks the tea leaves suggest a Trent Brown trade. Not sure I, necessarily, agree but it wouldn't have been a total shocker BEFORE the investment in McDermott/Cajuste/Anderson/Reiff so it probably shouldn't be one now (if it happens).

Some Patriot types I like, quality players who won't break the bank.
WR Richie James, 49ers used him more as a deep threat, Giants used him as a chain mover. Not a lot to go after on WR market. Impressive amount of 1D.
LB True Tranquil- he faster than anything we have and does a little bit of everything.
CB Rock Ya-Sin- a man cover CB with size
CB/S- Julian Love- Bill would love his versatility, unreal tackler for a DB
DT Daniel Ekuale- resign one of our own, I thought he was very good as a backup pass rusher at DT

Annoying these are guys that they got after missing their primary target of Andre Dillard. My guess is low floor with a pretty good ceiling on Anderson. Reading about the former UDFA and seems promising after starting 7 games for Denver. www.patriots.com/news/analysis-patriots-reportedly-sign-former-broncos-ot-calvin-anderson-to-two-year-

When I was putting together draft spreadsheets during his year, I was certain #3 on your list was named "Rock Ya" Sin. Man, that would've been cool.

Per Field Yates, NE tacked another year onto DMac's contract even though he's retiring. Will create ~5m in space for 23 with ~6M in dead cap for 24 Terrible. Trading cap space in a year you might be competitive for a year you will not be competitive.

I can't wait for the Aaron Rodgers self-immolation in New York. jmei you're a wiser man than me, why the heck would the Packers even trade him to the Jets? He doesn't have a no-trade clause and he's under contract. I wouldn't do it just out of spite. He's been VERY PUBLICLY an a**hole about so many things, I'd trade him to Washington for a 7th or just flat out sit him. EDIT: I mean he just called him THE greatest Green Bay Packer of all time and he has won as many NFC Championship games as Tom Brady.

I like JuJu better at that price, and they are basically the same age even though JuJu has 2 more NFL years. Still okay with JSN at 14 to 20, though I wonder if other teams take some WRs a smidge too early given prices and lack of FA options.

Much better after the catch than Meyers He wasn't that good in Pittsburgh without AB and had slightly better numbers than Meyers in KC with Patrick Mahomes throwing to him in an Andy Reid offense. We know Mac Jones likes Jackobi Meyers and has been his go-to guy and probably would have been a captain. Jackobi had 804 yards to JuJu's 933 with that horrific experiment last year. Jackobi is also historically healthier. Again, I like it, but not over Meyers and don't know why they couldn't have both unless another shoe drops. Oh, and JuJu also had Kelce in KC to go along with that AB narrative.

Probably safe to say it was the Patriots that moved on. There’s a good argument to be made that Meyers is better but Juju has more big play ability and that’s needed for this squad
