Good chance Jeff Green gets a ring as a rotation player, didn’t expect that in 2023

Not to change subject but we traded our 1st rounder which is 30. But we are drafting at 35. Not bad, not bad at all.

No I'm not paying Martin 50 million, he's just breaking out. Why can't Brown do that? We don't run great offense like the Heat do. They maximum that roster and their players with likely the best coach or one of the top 3 coaches in the NBA. They aren't giving Martin the ball and asking him to do iso all game long.
People say Brown hasn't improved his ball handling and passing, that's bull crap. You clearly don't remember what Brown once was. Not crazy easy to see because as he has improved, they keep asking him to do more. You want Brown playing like Martin, scoring within the offense.
Certain people have for years acted like I'm crazy calling for a PG or floor general. Charles Barkley is saying the same thing, they don't run plays, they don't run offense. Yeah against bad defensive teams it can work, it doesn't work against good defensive teams. Especially ones that can play multiple ways including zone D. The Heat play man D, zone D, help D and we even got full court D. With did crap like that under Stevens, yet as the Jay's have improved their coaching has gone to crap!
That being said Brown is a max level player, not a supermax level player

I’m going to avoid the drama of this offseason. Here’s how I see it going:
1. Lots of BS rumors from frustrated fans and writers who have a job to do about Jaylen being traded…. He’s not.
2. Brown will sign a super max extension which makes JT happy and keeps the team together.
3. No big trades will be made
4. Pritchard will be dealt.
5. They’ll draft a guy at 35
6. They’ll probably add a big man for depth and maybe a wing.
7. The will add a couple experienced assistant coaches.
Mostly the same team will return. Mazzula was thrown into the job right before camp and his top assistant left towards the end of the year.
The offseason is going to be mostly boring with actual moves but the chatter will be loud.
They should stay the course with this group. Don’t tell me a 24 and 26 year old have maxed out.

That being said Brown is a max level player, not a supermax level player Jaylen Brown in year 2: 1.6 assists per game to 1.8 turnovers per game Jaylen this year: 3.5 assists per game to 2.9 assists per game And that ratio dips a bit in the playoffs, where it’s essentially 1:1. You’re right in that his handle, while shaky at times, is miles better than where it was as a rookie. But he’s simply never developed as a playmaker, and it’s a negative aspect of his game considering his position.

Brown 2nd year 8.5% assist rate, 12% TO rate and 21.4% usage rate
This year a down year, 16.5%, 11.4% and 31.4%
If being twice as good as a playmaker isn't him developing I don't know what to say. He's also decreased his TO, while his usage rate has gone crazy.
What he needs to do is start decreasing his usage rate, which has gone up every year.

Have people actually read the new CBA rules? You can't run it back and add real talent. Resign Grant and you go over the 2nd tax line, meaning only minimum salary guys and draft picks, no buyout guys. Use the mid-level even tax paying one and you're hard caped like if you used the full mid-level under the old CBA. Over 2nd tax line, you can't take back extra in trade
New CBA isn't just about money, it literally stops you from adding talent. Overpaying guys like Smart isn’t something you can keep doing. Why they didn't simply just overpay Grant Williams.
You give Tatum and Brown both super max extensions you will struggle to add any talent. That extra $15 million a year is like a guy like White and being able to use the mid-level. The day and age of owners just paying big tax bills is over, the Warriors and Clippers destroyed it.
You know what just became crazy valuable? Draft picks and player development. Stevens needs to adjust or by the time we have prime age Jay's we'll struggle to surround them with talent.
Jaylen Brown isn't a supermax player, it's just that simple.

I generally agree with this albeit I would not be surprised to see one of Smart or Brogdon traded, for a true point guard who can guide the offense against top defenses.

Every player has weaknesses, Jimmy Butler loves to go right and is much better doing it. The difference? Miami runs multiple different offenses sets to get him the ball going right so it's hard to stop it. They aren't just asking him to drive into a zone D.
Stevens said they are looking to add a coach with a lot of prior head coaching experience and they need it, they need a whole new coaching staff. What we have two coaches left. Time to spend money on top assistants, something they haven't done since Doc was coach. They needed to do it with Ime and didn't, which was a problem this year.
I love Stevens, yet he needs to stop doing things he liked as a coach and start doing what our current coaches need. Veteran coaches and stop building crazy deep rosters, as few coaches used their benches like Stevens did.

Want to make a splash, go trade Brogdon. Now you could insert other players, yet he was the worst defensive player by far in the playoffs. The debate we had about his D and some people thinking it could be better was dead wrong. He also was just another iso player. Now maybe better coaching can help solve our iso issues, you aren't fixing his D. White got destroyed by Butler for a few games, yet adjusted and showed you why he's a great defender.
Then you can keep Pritchard and still have an offensive spark plug coming off the bench.
Make things easier on our coach, designing a ball movement offense, with 3 crazy high iso players with high usage rates is going to be crazy hard.

I'm intrigued by Trayce Jackson-Davis PF/C. 23 year old senior and teams seem to hate seniors in the draft. 6'9" 240 pounds, 7'1" wing span. Explosive jumping ability, which makes him a very good shot blocker and rim runner. Good dribbling for a center and very good passer. Inside scorer with no outside shot as of now, which likely means Celtics aren't interested. Horford showed his age in that Miami series and our D just isn't the same when you take away Robert Williams shot blocking. Davis gives you rebounding, shot blocking, rim running and inside scoring. I like the fact that his inside scoring is quick moves use athletic ability and dribbling, not back to the basket. Horrible screener, needs major work. Lower half is NBA ready, he'll need to increase his upper half to deal with NBA centers. Looks more like 220/230 than 240 because of that.
Years ago I would have focused on the younger guys with highest upsides. Given this team, a senior who can likely get some minutes as a rookie seems smarter. He won't be a star and you always worry about guys like him, leading scorer on team adjusting to being role players. Yet he's the only big currently in our range going by recent rankings that seems like a good fit and I've looked at all of them, unless a higher rate big drops like Robert Williams did on draft night.
Colby Jones, Andre Jackson and Trayce Jackson-Davis all giving you D and good passing at their positions.

Sam Cassell joining the Cs staff.

Good hire, they need a bunch of coaches. Yet what is Sam Cassell as a coach? I see a lot of the players love him. We need brilliant offensive and defensive minds though, coaches with actual HC experience. Good move if they are just getting started, not great if he's the big hire.

They presumably chose Cassell over Paul Silas (who announced that he's joining the Pistons staff today). I think it's a reasonable conclusion that they need an effective communicator (someone that the players respect and will listen to) more than a brilliant strategist. They've had great Xs-and-Os guys before (Stevens himself, for example), but the issue has been that the players (and particularly the star players) don't always buy in.

We still blaming Stevens for Irving? We blaming him for Kemba getting injured and those issues?
We've spent the last two years watching our teams be out coached and not be able to adjust. They literally just basically didn't run offense and they couldn't play different kinds of d. The wheels came off when simply trying to double team a guy. The one thing we basically got was them playing hard. We absolutely need great X and O guys!

Bobi Klintman sf/pf/small ball center. One of the biggest ranges in draft, mid first to mid 2nd round. Very good size, a good not great athlete. From Sweden where he played and then came to Prudue. A big upside guy, I've seen many comps, I come away thinking he's a young raw Lamar Odom type player. He could be a point forward in time, good handle for a guy his size and great passing vision like most Euro players. One of the better looking jump shots you'll see in a guy his size. Needs to add strength and power for NBA, he's no where near ready and frankly should have went back to college because he has lottery upside. I'd rather more NBA ready type guys, yet you can't overlook his upside. Watch his highlight tape and you think he's a mid first round pick, yet his production was rather horrible in college. Big plus is has a year going from euro to American style and he certainly looked a lot different. Had to mention him because of his upside and he's likely a guy the Celtics would be interested in.

Keyontae Johnson SF 225 6'5" with 7' wingspan. Missed almost two years with heart issue, yet seems to be behind him. Another senior guy. I frankly put him lower down my list because he's like the Jays, basically a scorer that can play D, yet doesn't get others involved enough. Reminds me of Desmond Bane, incredibly well built athlete, yet without the passing. He's a 3 level scorer and he makes it look easy. He's NBA ready, good rebounder and picks up steals. Yet like the Jays he can try to do too much, so too many TOs and while the can play good D, he has lapses like Brown. He didn't test, yet it's clear on tape he's a good or better athlete, that's not an issue. Guy can play rotation minutes next year. He really should be a 1st round pick. The question is really fit, he's the first guy I'm talking about without good vision and passing. Yet I'll admit, you might just have to take him if he's there, easily the best tape I've watched when talking about transition to NBA. NBA body, athleticism, skills and production.
Then again I might go crazy watching the Jays, Brogdon and Johnson all playing iso offense. Then again, when they go to the bench, you have a similar player to insert. I'm very torn over his fit, yet his talent is crazy for a guy most have in 2nd round.

Johnson was looking like a first rounder at Florida before he collapsed on the court. Been happy to see him rebound from that and was also looking at him as a potential option

Jaime Jaquez jr. SF 6'6" 225 6'10" wingspan. All the scouting reports talk about his lack of high end athleticism and it shows on tape. Yet at combine 34.5 and 39" inch verticals, which is basically never seen on tape. He's an old school type player, with advanced skill level and tons of moves. High engery player, gets a lot of steals, yet lateral quickness and ability might be a problem in NBA. 3 point shooting percentage is a worry, yet he's great off the dribble, yet bad in spot up shooting. There's so much A typical crap with him like that. I think his shot will be fine in time. His most impressive skill is his dribbling and his moves in the paint. He goes through zone D like a hot knife through butter, makes it look easy. Go to scorer at College level, might be better in NBA being a point forward. Big worry is his awkward finishing, he finds a way and it's impressive. Yet that's not all going to translate to NBA. I might draft the guy to just help the Jays learn how to attack zone D. Yeah he's that skilled in that area. The NBA just hates seniors it seems, he's NBA ready. One big problem is he likely needs the ball in his hands a lot. I might turn him into a PG, as he might have the best handle of anyone on the Celtics.

Brad and Danny have only made positive value moves. I would be surprised to see them offer Jaylen the supermax. The advance statistics show that the Celtics were one of the worst teams in basketball when Jaylen was leading the offense.
A possible scenario? Brad and the Celtics offer Jaylen what they feel comfortable with (say, 5 years $190 mil.) and Jaylen demands a trade. Boston is then “forced” to trade Jaylen.
