The first round college players mostly went under slot last year, even if they weren't drafted higher than their ranking. If Griffin falls to us there's a good chance he has a beefy asking price, although pedroelgrande has some contrary intel above. What's beefy? Full slot?

Last year only one HS pick went above slot in the first 20 picks (Walker Jenkins went for $4,500 over slot.)

Decent amount of local kids (to us New Englanders) on this list, some of which I've seen in summer leagues or during their college streams. One of the stronger SR lists I can recall. Tyler McGregor- Northeastern 1B, Seamus Barrett LHP Louisville/Loyola Marymount (Arlington, MA), Julian Greenwell OF Wright St (no relation), Brandon Eicke VCU 3B, Tony Rossi RHP Charlotte, and Caleb Cozart 1B UNC are some of my favorites. 1 tool, are you giving us your late round college draft list again this year? Last year the Sox took one of your picks (Duffy I think) and traded for another (Judice). Absolutely. I usually post something on the morning of Day 2, once the dust settles on the first round.

Seems to be a consensus top 10 and then things get weird. I feel pretty confident one of those guys falls, hopefully this year it's another big surprise like Teel and we get lucky again.

Perhaps the most interesting thing from that Top 100 to me is Christian Moore all the way down at #37. He's drawn a lot of conversation here for the #12 pick and I think has mostly ended up in that neighborhood for other people.

Not surprised to see Law not buying into despite his end of year tear

I saw one mock with Montgomery falling past us (we took C Moore in that one). Is there any belief that Montgomery's injury will have lasting affects? If not, from our resident Aggies contributor, wouldn't Montgomery be a better pick if he falls to us?
Just asking because people watching that team should know both players well, and maybe there is a signal that he could be "the guy who falls."

My mostly uninformed opinion is that hopefully someone in that 50FV tier falls and if not I'd have Yesavage as my next hope in that 45+ tier. Then probably Tibbs and Moore, I don't really want Caminiti but that is almost all going off of RedSoxStats post in this thread yesterday saying they heard some not so great stuff on him.

Just curious. Once you sign a draft pick. When can that player be traded?

Brody Brecht would be an interesting guy to follow. I mostly see him going in the late teens to 20’s in most mocks but the stuff is so electric I could see the guys in the lab loving him and thinking they could make some tweaks. Hard to find a guy with more upside than that with where they’re picking, but some very obvious warts.

Just curious. Once you sign a draft pick. When can that player be traded? They can now be traded in the offseason after the draft. They can no longer be included as the PTBNL in a trade that happened before that period, either.

The Globe story noted that Kiley McD and both Callis and Mayo mocked Moore to the Red Sox. www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2024/07/07/red-sox-2024-mlb-mock-draft-roundup/Law ($) questions "whether the power will hold up with a wood bat," says when he saw him he was not great with off-speed offerings, and says he is below-average at 2b and likely to wind up in LF.

Law's Ryan Waldsschmidt of Kentucky at 11 is interesting. People like his offense, but Law says he will be above average in a corner, while mlbpipeline has him at #23 and says he is below average in LF, with a weak arm.

I updated Kiley's list with Law's ranks to see how they compare. With my limited knowledge it would be great to if one of those 50FV falls to the Sox. Seems like Moore and Caminiti's rank reflects the volatility of their projections.

It's weird how two high-profile analysts like McDaniel and Law can scout the same players and come away with wildly different takes.
For instance, McDaniel calls Kurtz a "standout defender" at 1B, while Law says "it'll take some work to get to average".

Reading Kiley’s article today he has a 45-grade on Moore’s in-zone contact rate amongst college bats. That seems pretty terrifying.

Whats the lowest offer a team can offer a draftee and retain that pick (minus one slot) next year if said player does not sign?
I thought it was 70-75% but I am unsure.

The guy I think fits the Red Sox like a glove is Seaver King . Multi positional prospect SS, 3B, 2B , CF also is a right handed hitter. The RedSox love versatile athletes. He has a 65 speed with more power to come as is they project him 12-15 homers. He also came from D 2 school to one of the top college programs in Wakeforest and proved himself @ the highest level. They could probably cut a slight under slot deal for him as well. He’s one of the safest players in this draft.

I just worry that he'd slip a cervical vertebra, do a short DL stint, struggle a bit coming back, and we'd spend months asking if Nick Kurtz' neck hurts.
