No team makes this many mental mistakes this is 100% on Cora for not getting the players dialed in. This guy should be fired tonight

Blame the manager all you want, at the end of the day, players gotta make plays, and pitchers gotta make pitches.

You know the Mariners comeback was brewing when DOB started marveling about how the Sox owned the series the last 2 years lol

Honestly I think Cora's been managing his balls off lately with a rotation that basically has 2.5 actual starters in it. Bad day to have a bad day for Schreiber and Cora as well. But some of the crap being tossed his way here today is excessive. Agree with all of that. Presented with a very high degree of difficulty situation he's done pretty well most of the season. So many complaints boil down to "geez can't believe Cora left in the pitcher who gave up runs, he should have brought in a pitcher who wouldn't have given up runs" while ignoring the need to keep guys rested, to manage for the whole game, etc.
Having said that, bringing Schreiber out for his second inning was one of the bigger WTF moments of the year.

Blame the manager all you want, at the end of the day, players gotta make plays, and pitchers gotta make pitches. This team is is a perfect example of why it’s so important, especially with the new shift rules, to prioritize up-the-middle defense (and defense in general, really). Nothing frustrates me more than lapses on that side of the ball. Only baserunning blunders even approach making me go similarly nuclear.

Everybody settle down. This is baseball. The way it goes. Ups and downs. Ebbs and tides. We have bad defensive players at most positions. It’s what it it. It does get a bit old everytime things go wrong that we are instantly pointing fingers. The team is getting better, healthier and the future looks good. That said there will be hickups. Is for all teams. Now let’s get some hits.

I literally don’t understand. Bernardino hasn’t played since the 30th. It makes zero sense.

Love Devers, even with the warts, but if you are gonna call out the FO for help, you gotta be squeaky clean 99 percent of the time. 10000%. for what he is being paid, he needs to work on his fielding

Anyone have a pulse on how often we make dumb fielding mistakes in comparison to other teams? Is this a coaching issue? Coaches fields, runs the bases for the players? If you don’t think coaches have any hand in preparing players for in-game situations, making sure there’s some kind of standardized communication in the field, and helping to hone their fielding skills, then I don’t know what to tell you. Sarcasm is cool, but would you mind educating me about what the purpose of a coaching staff is, if you have other ideas?

Off tomorrow and instead Cora ran the pen like this is the middle of a 10 game stretch with no break and the won the first 4.
Awful.

We have bad defensive players at most positions. This is the one aspect of Bloom’s roster building that has consistently frustrated me. We can break down why batting average isn’t valued as much and why BABIP and exit velocities imply certain future outcomes, but don’t seem to properly value guys who can catch it and throw it at a reasonably big league level.

I'm not sure about dumb mistakes specifically but the Red Sox have -45 OAA on the year. The second worst team in baseball has -15. And that is quite something. This actually shocked me so went by position, the Red Sox are ranked (in terms of OAA): 27th at 1st 27th at 2nd 28th at SS 30th at 3rd 23rd at LF 28th at CF 9th at RF (woohoo) And not OAA but FG ranks them 17th at C. Where's that negative value at CF coming from? Duvall is -3, Duran is +1, Kiké was +1. How does that add up to 28th in the majors?

Here it is. If we loose and Toronto and Baltimore split the next 2 we are 2 back. Going home for 10 games. 3 Vs Toronto withoutbthere best player. It’s still in our hands. That said we need sone wins. A big boost will be getting story to SS. Hopefully sale is is a week away. And if Houck and Whitlock follow we should have a roster full of MLB capable players. For the first time I in few years.

These fundamentals are maddening and all on Cora. This is basic positioning and knowing where each player is. They have done it all year and is unacceptable. Where was Bernardino? He hasn't pitched too much lately
I am so disgusted with this along with a steal of home and DOB is a jinxmaster. Time for Mike Monaco to replace his sorry ass.

OAA scoring for outfielders is agnostic of LF/CF/RF, so the Red Sox are at -1 for the season, but the team with the worst CF defense is at -2. Most teams put really good outfield defenders in CF, but with Duran being the primary guy there the Red Sox just have an average one.

We have bad defensive players at most positions. This is the one aspect of Bloomâs roster building that has consistently frustrated me. We can break down why batting average isnât valued as much and why BABIP and exit velocities imply certain future outcomes, but donât seem to properly value guys who can catch it and throw it at a reasonably big league level. He's added Kiké for CF, Duvall, Story, Mondesi, JBJ, Chang... Bloom clearly values good defense. The bad defensive numbers have a lot to do with a) Kiké being inexplicably atrocious, and b) guys playing out of position to cover gaps in the roster due to injuries or underperformance (e.g. Arroy in RF, Franchy at 1B, etc.).
I do kinda wonder if the coaching staff doesn't emphasize it enough though. I don't really know how else to explain the failures of communication on the field like that Devers/Chang bumble. Or why guys like Devers and Casas can have such frequent lapses.

Why did Duvall swing at ball 4 He's got a career 6.7% walk rate, when these guys get to a 3-1 they'll swing no matter where the pitch is lol
