I don't understand defensive indifference. Why not throw down?

Get to Skubal and ERod, get shut down by Manning. This team! Keep collecting series wins Maybe we shouldn't be so concerned with the "brutal" remaining schedule ?

With this team it doesn’t matter who they play, it just matters how they play. When they’re going well and making the plays they should be making they can beat anybody

6-4 with the tying run at the plate if Urias doesn’t make that sick tag Defense matters! Somebody has to ask: what are the chances our regular 3rd baseman makes that play? I'll go first: zero As Ben's brother should you really be making fun of someone's defense? I thought that was the reason the Sox traded him.

I can't see how Story is going to make a difference.

I’ve been a Whitlock-as-starter guy, but I think I’ve changed my mind.

I don't understand defensive indifference. Why not throw down? It should also be counted as a steal. The player is stealing second, period. A throw down may or may not change the outcome, but the player took the initiative to advance himself.

I hate the yellow jerseys. But if they keep winning wearing them I guess I will suffer.

And get off Ben's ass -- he has zero to do with this discussion.

He is such a weapon in the pen though He was hurt with the Yankees farm as a starter. He has been hurt 2 out of the 3 years with the Sox both of them as a Starter. I was all for the try but I think I am in the reliever camp now.

Yeah Raffy's defense pisses me off too because I think he can be better. As far as Ben, I thought he should have been hitting 40 home runs for the Sox rather than the Brewers.

I know you said you’re kidding but honestly what are the odds he has a better season than Xander next year? Like 40% or something? It wouldn’t be a shock if he did. Maybe higher than 40%? Counterpoint: that was all in Colorado, and here are his xwOBA/wRC+ trends:
2018: .358, 128 2019: .341, 122 2020*: .335, 117 2021: .335, 98 2022: .301, 100
He's looked good in spurts, but I'm not really expecting more than an average bat. Combined with elite defense, that's good enough though.

Certainly interesting that he was playing through a bum elbow 2021 and 2022, though, and that in 2022 he had a shortened Spring Training and later had to come back from a two-month absence from a broken bone. Plus there's the adjustment of it being his first year in Boston on a big deal...
If he could put up a .340 xwOBA like clockwork when healthy this is just about exactly what I'd expect given what he's gone through. And the elbow should finally be healthy, so I'm expecting him to bounce back. There should be a little age-related decline creeping in and it's hard to see through my homer glasses, but I'm expecting a wRC+ north of 110 next year.

The upside scenario is not wildly implausible for sure. But the last time he had a .340 xwOBA he was 26 and next year he'll be 31.

From '16-'20 he was consistently running super high BABIPs (.350+) and his wOBA was way outperforming his xwOBA by like .35. In '21 and '22 that didn't happen. His sprint speed also fell below 29 ft/s that year, but his baserunning didn't fall off at all. I wonder if that explains the change or not. Hard hit % and avg EV also down a little beginning in 2020 and 90 ft run time was also down beginning that year (from 3.77 to 3.90), but in 2020 he still way outperformed his xwOBA and ran a really high BABIP.
