Moving up a couple spots in the middle of the first round just doesn't matter that much. Maybe I'll root for them to lose on the last day of the season or something, but that's about it. On the other hand, I would like the players to have success, and for the team to have as many bragging rights as possible, and for manfred to have even less material to work with. Now is definitely the root-for-stats time. But also root for some fun games to round off the year. And if they finish strong, maybe people will overestimate them next year and have more ammo to attack pessimists! 😘

Oh, I think it does in many instances. Would we have gotten Teel or Mayer if we had R1-15 in 2023 or R1-5 in 2021? It doesn't make a difference if the POBBO has his eye on a surprise pick like Yorke in 2020 or Romero in 2022. (Although I guess one could argue that our draft position in 2020 was important because it gave us a shot at PCA. The fact that we didn't take him is immaterial to the discussion about the importance of the slot for someone who wants to take the discussion in that direction.) All that said, I can't root against Red Sox wins and I certainly cannot root for MFY wins. But the SFG have made me very happy the last two nights.

But we don't even know if those will prove to have been good picks yet. If they had picked a few spots later in 2021 and gotten Lawlar instead of Mayer would that have been a worse outcome? Would it have been worse if they were picking later in 2012 and Trey Ball were already off the board?
All else being equal, a higher draft pick is of course better, but draft outcomes are so statistically noisy that it really hardly makes a difference - certainly by the middle of round 1 (there's a bigger difference between picking #1 and #4 or something).

Inning ends with great plays. Ceddanne can pick it.

$%#^&! Ceddanne makes his first great play and I can't see it because I'm only a six-hour drive from Baltimore and am blacked out. Will look for the video.
(ok I got it)

Mentioning Trey Ball is fighting dirty. Hearing that name ruins my whole day. But seriously, would he have been off the board if the Red Sox were drafting, let's say, five picks lower? I seem to recall that the pick was quite a surprise at No. 7. It made the whole Bobby Valentine experience a total waste of time. There's also the money issue. Draft higher, more $$$ to throw around.

First slump for Casas in a long time. Swing seems off
Verdugo seems off too.

Pretty terrible defense by the Orioles this series. They're not elite in any aspect of the game: fielding, hitting, pitching but they're at the top of the AL because: They're clutch with runners on base. They've won an incredible number of 1 run games. Not a very sustainable model if you ask me.

Gotta get through the next inning with the lead. Radar shows more sogginess coming to Fenway soon.
