Rafaela struggling recently, in particularly over the past week. That should give him something to think about for working on as he heads into the offseason. If anything, I'm glad that we've been able to get him a lot of MLB at bats this month. Certainly want to see him succeed, let's hope he grows in a similar way that Duran has grown over the past few offseasons. His traditional numbers were always misleading. His BABIP has been insane. After tonight, it's at .383. His K rate is high and his BB rate is low. His xwOBA is .267. I don't want him accumulating service time next year while getting crushed by ML P.

Interesting to look at 2012 vs 2013 - last to first.
Got rid of Valentine (what a bizarre hiring - and what bizarre decisions he made)
Added Napoli, Drew, Gomes, Victorino and Ross - and Koji
Said goodbye to Gonzanlez and Ross and Beckett and Dice K
So added some veteran leadership that all played well and got a charge from Boston Strong/Ortiz leadership
Going to next year - is keeping Cora the right thing? Which players leave and who can be added to give a similar surge?
Interesting offseason for sure.

I had Sox over 77.5, Cubs +330 to make playoffs and Marlins +110 to miss playoffs. All shaping up to be horrific beats

Sox in a tough spot. They don't a need a front of rotation starter to compete next year, they need two. Possibly also an inning-eating #5. I'm guessing that won't happen, and I'm not even sure it is possible.
As such, I'm for a pretty big teardown - no more of this "bridge" garbage. Get rid of Cora - get some young blood from somewhere else. Keep the promising kids, hope to win 70 next year and eyeball 2025 (or 26).

And? There was literally one pitcher traded this deadline that has not blown up in the face of the new team. And that one pitcher wouldn’t have made a lick of difference with Bello and the rest of the rotation falling apart at once. I've seen this argument made many times - but too many variables for it to be valid. Any given player on a given team could perform very differently. So - I call bullshit on this excuse to not do something. I don't understand the argument that "they should have done something." It's obvious that they were bound and determined to stay under the CBT bar this year because they screwed the pooch on it last year... and every single other GM knew it and were highly incentivized to offer little in return in trades that would've helped Chaim stay under while acquiring talent. Call it the "haha, you effed it up last year" tax. The deadline was a sellers market (like it almost always is) and there's no reason why any seller would have let Chaim off the hook. Which is ultimately why he should've sold.
I'm also sure that Jansen gets this (or maybe the players are too focused on the field) but I don't blame him for being pissed about the situation. Good for him adding his boot to Chaim's ass on the way out. I like the fire going into next season. Bradfo knows it too. Pretty disingenuous of him to paint a retrospective picture of "just get a couple starters and they're playoff bound," like they'll fall out of the sky with MLB minimum contracts tied to their toes.

He got DFAd off the roster, I believe He cleared waivers and was outrighted to Woo. Not on the 40 man so not likely to be back this year and we are sure to loose him in rule 5. Yuk Yuk !! I believe he is a minor league free agent, so if he wants to sign with the Red Sox he can (if the next GM wants to make him an offer - no way the Red Sox use a 40 man roster spot on him), so minor league free agent to sign a minor league contract…

They have almost no tradeable assets among the veterans. The valuable players are the young ones you'd want to keep.
If they need two front of the rotation starters then they should just get two front of the rotation starters. They have the money for it, or the prospects if they want to make a trade.

Pete Abraham says Cora will be back next year. WTF?
Pete Abraham @peteabe Follow It seems Alex Cora has been given a guarantee he’ll be back.
“I’ll be here next year,” he said twice when asked about his status.

So he will be here next year until he isnt. Like Bloom

I don't get too worked up about Cora, or any manager, as far as that is concerned. He gets a lot of flak around here, some of it deserved, for sure. As with any manager, if you got the horses, you win races. You don't.....we know what happens. I do think it is weird that a new GM can't bring his own guy in. This almost seems like Cora has a lot of (maybe too much) power in the organization for being the field manager. Not sure that should be the case.

It’s definitely a strange case where a new GM comes in and is stuck with Cora. That leads me to believe they want to get another beta-type like Bloom to follow orders and not ask too many questions. And I agree that Cora has way too much power for a guy who’s essentially a one-hit wonder(who also relied heavily on cheating). I’d like to see them flush the whole program and start anew. Whatever they are doing is clearly not working and they are on the brink of being as irrelevant as the Pirates or Royals(albeit with a larger payroll).
