Didn't retire at least.

Kershaw isn't what he once was but he's still been a real good starter for them the last few years. I already figured the dodgers would be going hard at pitching this offseason and this Kershaw news just makes that even more likely.
It's going to be a battle for the Sox to come away with one of Yamamoto/Nola/gray etc.

I'd imagine Kershaw re-signs with them but doesn't sound like he'll be ready to go till june/July. That rotation could use at least 2 guys I'd imagine. They have as much money as anyone so definitely gotta think they're coming away with one of the top FA pitchers. Wouldn't rule out a trade either. I've seen plenty of conjecture they might land burnes which would definitely make sense too.

@jonheyman Eduardo Rodriguez opted out of Tigers deal. Had $49M, 3 years to go. Another old friend Jalen Beeks is on waivers

@tigers Introducing our newest Tiger! We have acquired OF Mark Canha from Milwaukee, in exchange for Minor League RHP Blake Holub.
Had an 11.5 million club option with a 2 million buyout. Holub is unranked. Probably the Tigers were the one team willing to pick up the option. Cahna is a righty OF the same age as Duvall with similar WAR production, although not a similar player beyond that

Bet he does a lot better on open market. I don’t want a reunion, mind you, but I don’t see worse that 3/$60.

Rosenthal says Chaim was an early target but declined to make himself a candidate.

Adolis Garcia won the gold glove for RF despite Verdugo leading the league in DRS (+9) and UZR (+10.6). Garcia was +7 and +6.4, respectively; Garcia did edge him out by OAA +2 to +1.
The third finalist was Kyle Tucker, who... had the single worst Def rating in the league. To be fair, he was only second worst by DRS and UZR.

Rosenthal says Chaim was an early target but declined to make himself a candidate. The owner in Florida makes Henry and Werner seem warm, embracing, collaborative and very forgiving. I'm sure Mr. Bloom has banked his payout and is waiting for the right opportunity. He doesn't have to rush.

Carrying the tradition Derek Jeter started many moons ago of a NYY SS winning the GG over a more deserving candidate(s).

Witt wasn't even a finalist, and I think I read somewhere that the reason is that their formula for picking finalists is DRS-heavy, and DRS does a poor job of adjusting for positioning, whereas OAA does take it into account. The Royals as a team stunk at defensive positioning, so Witt, who is a legitimately great defender, had a poor DRS (-6) but a great OAA. Volpe was just the opposite: he had a +15 DRS and a +1 OAA. So by implication the Yankees were great at positioning but Volpe was a fairly mediocre defender.
Or the other possibility is that defensive metrics are all just total nonsense.

I don’t buy defensive metrics overall, but GG has always been the award most impacted by hype and reputation. It is like a club… once you are “in” as a “great defender,” you are in forever, through off years or decline.

So if I am reading that correctly he will be replacing someone who hasn't been fired yet?
