Pirates hired Red Sox scout Justin Horowitz as their Director of Amateur Scouting. He was the signing scout for Jarren Duran.

In retrospect, I think the trade for Joey Gallo was the exact moment that Cashman entered the tailspin portion of his career.

The phrase that comes to mind is "unforced error."
Just, why say that publicly?

In retrospect, I think the trade for Joey Gallo was the exact moment that Cashman entered the tailspin portion of his career. My favorite part of his tirade press conference from last week is when Cashman said he spoke to Rougned Odor before trading for Gallo (they were teammates in Texas, and Odor had joined the Yankees earlier that year) and basically threw Odor under the bus. "He said Gallo could handle New York!"

Cal Quantril was DFAd. Wouldn't hate the sox taking a flier on him. Wasn't particularly good in 2023 but was solid enough previous could years.

Bob Watson was apparently the bridge from Steinbrenner churning through managers and GMs in the 70s and 80s to just letting Cashman have the job forever.

Bob Watson was apparently the bridge from Steinbrenner churning through managers and GMs in the 70s and 80s to just letting Cashman have the job forever. There is something truly ossified about that organization. The way they insist on their weird facial hair rules when that gesture has long since lost all cultural relevance and meaning. The way they built a new stadium that was just a degraded replica of the original. Their overinflated sense of Yankee Pride which just comes off now as stiff joylessness. Just as the Red Sox needed a bunch of idiots to shake off the Curse, the Yankees need an infusion of personality just to get over themselves.
But as we all know, in baseball, personality=long hair + beards. And the Yankees would never allow that.

Nothing better encapsulates what’s wrong with the Yankees’ priorities as an organization than the fact that they put a sponsor on the pinstripes before they let the players grow beards

My take on the NL Cy Young vote is that I hope they make a Moneyball sequel that's about Farhan Zaidi so that Jesse Plemons can play Logan Webb.

I can understand the fans of any team being upset when their team moves. Tim Keown needs to wake up.

“It’s been a lot worse for me than you” to a fan you’re taking a team away from. Says it all about Fisher.

What a weird trade. A decent middle reliever for four guys on the 40 who are DFA/nontender candidates. Not an inspiring first move for the new White Sox regime imo

ChiSox are going to suck but if a couple of those guys work out, because they are in the AL Central it could work. At least be a contender for the division. Minnesota and Detroit aren`t any better than they are. Kansas City could be good if their pitching surprises. Cleveland looks like the easy division champ right now. It`s too long a time until March 28th.
