From the reports it seems like all the rookies were backing up, a seniority thing at this point in camp (Zappe got more reps than Maye for instance) |

Yeah I see that now, not what one of the Boston sports guys I follow on X said before. Sow at LG, Leverett at RG. Then Robinson at RG after LG at rookie mini camp, Mafi at all 3 interior spots. Seems they want to see if these guys can play multiple positions.
I need to go back to not caring about anything till a few weeks into training camp.
One interesting thing, Mayo said they will nail down the top 3 QBs before training camp.

Well I don't understand the problem with 4 QBs on a 90 man roster, especially when one should sit for awhile and the other is a long-term project. So making that statement really makes no sense, but they did say it. If they do what RJP thinks, Mayo is already losing credibility. First with free agent signings that had to be walked back by GM and now this. Which isn't a good look before you are even close to playing your first game.
Given comments made by the team, yeah I'd say Zappe likely goes and I hate that. One injury and Mayes starting, with Milton as your #2.

Something tells me the leagues not gonna be banging doors down for him, he’d probably end up on a practice squad |

I'd say Zappe is likely at worst a decent backup and a great 3rd string guy. Would be absolutely shocked if no team picks him up.
If you can get him to your practice squad great. I sure hope Milton proves me 100% wrong, otherwise I don't like what is likely to happen. Zappe is better for Maye, he can help him more than Milton can and that's what matters.

The way I look at it if we’re at a point with both Brissett and Maye injured I’d prefer Milton and I’d prefer to lose as many games as possible at that point. Could be the difference between picking top 5 and picking 10th

What if you release Zappe, he signs somewhere, then Brissett gets injured during camp. I don't want Maye starting game one because he was handed QB1 by default. I don't want him being forced to play before he's ready. |

How to you sell that to Drake Maye? Brissett and Zappe are veterans that have started and won NFL games. Joe Milton is a 6th round pick with less College starts than Drake Maye and more raw. Yeah we know you outplayed Milton, ran circles around him all training camp, but he's starting! I don't hate the idea if you just want to tank, it makes sense. They aren't doing it, certainly not game one of the year. The optics are so crazy bad its not even funny. |
