I read that Ottawa WAS on the list but he agreed to waive NTC

Seems like Sean McDonough has thrown his name into the hat for the PBP gig, that would be ideal.

They went with the 6’7 center Dean Letourneau. Committed to BC

Anyone else surprised that a Swayman deal was not made before trading Ullmark? I'm going to assume a deal is struck and the announcement is a formality.

Nikita Zadorov signed 6 years x $5 mill
Elias Lindholm signed 7 years x $7.75 mill
Sweeney aggressive. Love this. Lindholm has more backfire potential but I think he should produce like a #1 next to Pastrnak

Max Jones 2 years x $1 mill per
Aggressive forechecker, big, good skater, agitates, bad at fighting but does it sometimes. Has some nasty to him.
They clearly wanted to get meaner. I wanted him his draft year. Plays like a prick, which I like

They added some nastiness down in providence too (Tufte, Sweezey, Viel)
Wow talk about sending a message. Not gonna get pushed around this season.

For sure, Viel in particular is a throwback to the days of the goon. Would be a huge fan fav here in 2003. Interestingly enough he actually produces at the AHL level which is why he’s gotten some shots, but 5 points and 139 PIM in 49 games in the NHL tells the story on who he is lol Fun fighter

So Swayman supposedly wants 10 million a year. I was always team Swayman. But if Sweeney says no way I wonder just wonder what he could get if asking around. I'm not impressed with what he got for Ullmark.Just wondering what he could get.

Work your way down to what you want.

My novice hockey take would be 8 million a year on a long-term deal would be top of the market for a player like him.

When it comes to contracts leverage is everything.

BC you can't give Sway what he wants with Ullmark also on the books unless you are getting rid of (or never bringing in, if we're talking Zadorov or Lindholm) a piece of your core. They don't have dead weight to trade away. Every vet contract they have is someone who is needed (or would need to be replaced with a similar contract). If you wanted the C and a D to add to what you had, the timing of the moves is really the only way this could've played out.

Not the first (or last) key RFA to go deep into the offseason w/o a contract. Look at Detroit. Granted it's not a Goalie situation but they have both Seider and Raymond without contracts. Dallas still needs to lock up Hardy. The Jets still have Perfetti.
What's going on with the Swayman? Not sure what to believe. Obviously we read the reports that he was "looking for 10 per" which I don't actually believe. Not that it wasn't what they came in at (again, negotiations don't start with what you want).
Meanwhile, Spittin Chicklets had everyone outraged with the Bs reported offer of 4*6 (btw the most relevant comp for Sway puts him a LOT closer to that range that most would believe - even though there should be an awareness that it NEVER gets done for that).

If he came in at $10 million per at first and their first is four years $6 million per. You simply spilt the difference. Yeah $8 million per is on highside, but isn't that usually where these end up? So the biggest issue is likely years, he probably wants 8, they say four. Again split it, 6 years at $8 million per year.
I might be high and long on years, but the Celtics broke me in a good way. So just pay him.

Pointing out a few exceptions would be the exceptions to the rule thus solidifying the rule and not actually countering it. It only re-enforces my point. He's arguably their best player and this has gone on long enough, no excuses.
