We have to be the only team in baseball who would willingly put Chase Anderson AND Brad Keller in the same bullpen.

I know a loss here was probably pre-destined when they had Jamie Westbrook hitting behind Devers and Bobby Dalbec in RF, but this just sucks

It's seems like every night the opposing pitcher reach's a career high in strikeouts. This team is too strikeout prone. Realistically how many guys in the lineups truly belong in the bigs?

It would have been interesting to see how good the Red Sox would have been had Story, Casas, Yoshida, Giolito, Whitlock…. not missed significant time (or the entire season)…. in addition to the shorter absences (O’Neill, Devers, Grissom, Pivetta, Bello, Campbell, Gonzalez…

Wonder if this explains the weird delay at the start of the game with the lineups?

Didn’t watch the game - what’s going on with Kutter? Is his stuff/velocity down?

Didn't see tonight's game - it was the first night of baseball games for my kids, t-ball and machine-pitch. Sounds like the quality of play was fairly equivalent, though.

The makeshift part of the lineup ( 5 thru 8) had a one day OPS of .703, which beat the over/under.
.286 / .417 / .703

I admit I had the Red Sox as a mid 70s team as a best case with touching 60s in the worst case. Injuries are a part of the game and they had questionable depth and guys with concerns, but this is just outright ridiculous. I was expecting players like Whitlock and Jansen to get hurt. Players like Crawford, Duran and Houck to be average to mediocre and maybe have 1-2 surprise injuries to normally healthy guys. Part of the idea was they would sell at the deadline and the floor would give out. They were certainly exceeding all expectations and now it's just a new guy every single day going down. Never expected they'd need Bobby Dalbec to play RF.

Good that he’s taking time to get it addressed, it can be debilitating

Wasn't it left shoulder discomfort yesterday? I was going to make this point either way, but perhaps it's more true now -people need to dial down their expectations of Martin as a trade chit. As great as he was last year, he's currently rocking a 0.0 fWAR and he's old and has been on the IL multiple times. Teams that trade for relievers are looking for guys pitching well to catch some momentum. Martin just hasn't done that this year. To the extent "anxiety" is a market killer for a guy who would be expected to pitch high leverage innings I have no clue. But it's not hard to think it would give some teams pause.

I dunno, Martin's peripheral nummbers seem fine to me. He's at 10.13 K/9 and 0.84 BB/9. He's just got an elevated HR rate, but otherwise seems like basically the same pitcher he's always been. As for the anxiety thing... I would imagine his lengthy career as a high-leverage reliever would be more of a signal to teams about his ability to pitch in high leverage than whatever this current IL thing is about, assuming he comes back from it looking fine.
I don't know what expectations have been, so I can't say whether they need to be dialed down, but he seems like the sort of player teams would be pretty interested in at the deadline.

O'Neill is back today (and playing RF) and Heineman has been sent down.
Cora said for the White Sox series they might be doing a bullpen day on Sunday ahead of the off-day. Wonder if that's to give Kutter an extra few days of rest and/or to set up the rotation a certain way vs the Phillies & Yankees?

First thing that comes to mind is the two balls scalded up the middle right at the guy in the span of a week. Here’s the second, a liner that almost hit him in the head: linky

I know all too well the struggle of crushing anxiety. I hope he can find the peace he needs and baseball be damned.

Wish other industries had an IL for real people with anxiety/mental wellness issues; it’s not only professional athletes who experience this.
