Wong’s framing is brutal. You’d think that’d be something that’s pretty easy to improve but he just hasn’t.

Time to find something more entertaining to watch. Oh nice, another HR. They're a damn joke.

Tough game today. Probably time for some yard work.

Pitcher might as well just turn around and chuck the ball into the stands when Alvarez bats. That's probably where it's going anyway.

I didn't have time to tell my wife another homer is about to happen.

I blame that missed strike call 80% on the ump but 20% on Wong's frame job where he jerked his glove up like 18 inches even though the pitch was in fact a strike.

This is what you get when you push Bernardino against a great lineup. Bernardino shouldn't be pitching in that situation.
This is also what you get when you trade for Paxton.

Valdez had a golden opportunity this year and had his worse year since his breakout year when we traded for him He has a .327 xwOBA on a .258 BABIP. Sans the wOBA-xwOBA gap he'd be around a 110 wRC+.
Though given his defensive/positional/platoon limitations that still might not be enough to cement a major league role for him.
I'd feel better about him if he wasn't mediocre in AAA this year

This year's likely post AS break collapse is different than the last 2 collapses.

I think you sell high on Wong this off-season, even if framing becomes irrelevant with robo umps. He's not a great blocker behind the plate. He's not really a good defensive catcher in general.

Is the idea that other teams will not have noticed any of this? And who would be his replacement? He makes a ton of sense as a back-up for Teel.

I would just like to state this is why I think bullpen games are completely idiotic. You leave zero room for error in the games that surround them. Whether it’s injury or a guy is getting shelled, you handicap your bullpen for little reason.

I cannot get over how simultaneously promising and snake-bitten this season has been. Paxton could have strained his calf in any inning he's pitched and he does it in the first inning a day after a bullpen game.

So a lot of teams would be interested. Jansen would be my bridge piece until Teel is ready.

I like the idea of adding SP depth in a vacuum, but not so much when it's mediocre vets who have to stay on the 26-man. Either sign guys who are rotation locks and build depth by pushing guys down the depth chart, or sign Criswell types who have options and can build depth on the back end.
Right, I always laugh when that comes up. I mean, where do they put this magical "starting pitching depth?" Are there special separate rules that only apply to the Sox? Because they began with Giolito, Pivetta, Houck, Bello, Crawford, Whitlock, Winckowski and Murphy. Then they grabbed Criswell to stash in AAA and Anderson as a break-glass long man. Plus some fliers. That's enough, even with bad luck (which we had) for a credible rotation. But I guess we should have signed some ML starters and just stuck 'em in the ether until needed? Like maybe 4 of 'em or something? The problem is most of that list is full of useful arms that aren’t actually starting pitchers. Only three of those arms have ever topped even 150ip in any season. Some of us felt/feel that that’s actually very good starting pitching depth, but at least one and probably two arms short of a starting rotation. For several consecutive seasons, their plan A has been what a very, very good plan C looks like. That’s frustrating. If most everything has to go right to get 1450ip out of your projected pitching staff, it’s usually not going to work for six full months.

Whether it’s injury or a guy is getting shelled, you handicap your bullpen for little reason. And it’s not just handicapping the bullpen for this game. We will feel the effects of this for several days, at the very beginning of a 27 games/27 days stretch. It’s cumulative and it grinds guys down so there’s less in the tank when it matters most.

These awful relievers one after another. We have to go way back to Tazawa to have a successful home grown reliever. That is about 15+ years ago.
