Question, Red Sox fan friends - would you rather they just collapse so don't have dashed expectations for more weeks - or keep playing this "maybe they make it, maybe they don't" game for the coming weeks? As a Red Sox fan, I would prefer they play well and win games. The more the better.

I am so over the O'Neill show. Some bases empty epic dingers are not worth the vast empty spaces of Ks in between. Ready to say goodbye to him

Dont know if there are any expectations anymore for this season so I dont know if it matters any longer. Does it matter if they wind up 85-77 or 78-84 yet again and miss the playoffs either way? Hard to say. Whichever motivates ownership to spend this offseason is fine with me. Getting a better draft pick doesnt hurt either, although I'm not sure how the lottery effects that.

Should have sold at the deadline. Treading water is so infuriating. This team would have been better if we sold last year and next year is would have been better if we sold this year. If they're 2 up on the playoff hunt, and blow it, and they dont sell, would you have an issue with that too? I mean they were just 1 damn game out. If they're going to punt every damn July what's the point?

They were never ever ever going to sell this Deadline and its a waste of bandwidth to keep arguing they should have. It was the same exact situation for 3 years straight. They should have.

What Youk just observed could not be more obvious: Wong is tired. That probably contributed to his defensive flubs yesterday and his generally elevated K rate the last month or two. Why does Cora not see this?

I'll answer my question. If we are not in the playoff hunt, I watch the games differently - see if the youth is showing promise, get an idea of who should not be on the team next year, be a little more dispassionate if they play like crap. The games take more of an emotional toll if they are fighting for a playoff spot and playing like garbage. If we don't come back today, I will probably flip into just watching with less emotional investment.

Yankees, Blue Jays, Guardians all up, Royals down, Twins tied all mid games.

2 GIDPs for Duran - that is not easy to do.

Has Rafaela seen a single strike in this game? His single came on a ball out of the zone.

This season is largely a positive one, for the younger players establishing themselves as regulars, or better. Fascinating roster decisions to monitor over the offseason. The roster is in great shape in many areas and I’m excited about that.
The blatant fundamental errors are always interesting, on who to assign responsibility to. It’s probably the most annoying/fristrating part to watch in any sport. 162 games certainly leads to showing teams warts. The 2023 Sox were putrid defensively, and strides have been made. Hopefully many more strides are made with Story being back in 25, CF only playing CF, and Casas cemented at 1B all yr.
The 2024 final record will be what it is, but 2025 has me hyped already.

What’s our record since Cora’s extension?

This is who this team has been all year - probably not quite good enough, but never completely out of it, and fun to watch as a result. Beyond that, hoping for a team with a 1/3 or 1/4 chance to make the postseason to just, give up, is pretty unthinkable to me.

Made me a little uneasy to see the team laughing and joking after that Yoshida TOOTBLAN. Every run and game matters, wish they wouldn’t take their foot off the gas.

Beyond that, hoping for a team with a 1/3 or 1/4 chance to make the postseason to just, give up, is pretty unthinkable to me. I get what you're saying, but I would label this team more aggravating to watch than fun to watch since the all star break. I have not enjoyed the baseball post all star break. They have found so many annoying ways to beat thenselves, and as a result I am about 3 outs away from no longer giving a sh!t what they do with the rest of their season and it's not even September yet. I had low expectations for them and they pleasantly surprised with their athleticism, but once they got to the all star break, they have been nothing but a disappointment since. I dont know what theyll be doing in the offseason and I love the core 4 kids they have on the way although I know it can take time to acclimate so it might be another year of not quite before these kids figure it out. I dont know if Breslow figures things out until then. I feel like the arrow is pointing up. But today there's not much consolation in that. I feel like barring a 10 game winning streak or something like that, they're done.

Lucas Sims, folks. Take a long look at Sims and Garcia the rest of this season - if all goes well, they will not be here next year.

Well the good news on Lucas Sims is that if they like him so much he'll be real cheap to resign

Puk was a deadline addition for Arizona. He has an 0.75 ERA and FIP of about 1.00 for them. He has shut down the Red Sox in the series.
Sims and Garcia were the deadline additions for the Red Sox. They have performed... not as well.

When does Tyler O’Neil get hits? I’m not sure I’ve seen one for a few weeks he missed 2wks while hospitalized and then returned without any type of rehab and struck out 8 of 15 abs before injuring his finger and missing another handful of games. Really not sure what they are expecting from him. Let him get 10-15 AB's in Worcester so he has half a chance in Boston.
