Sure get rid of the guy who scouted and got a top 5 prospect in baseball as a 2nd rounder in Roman Anthony. Seems strange.

This seems really odd given that the team has built a Top 5 system (Top 3?).
Does anyone have any insights? Is this unrelated to job performance, ie something nefarious?

I would be curious to know who scouted Tanner Bibee for the 2021 draft

If that's true then I'd be curious what the other guy did to see where he kept his job and the scout that landed Anthony and others did not.

Just found this:
Don't know if Bres wants his own guys or if this signals a change in strategy. Something to watch.

This doesn't address the Sox specific decision to let go the signing scout for Anthony et al, but I came across two separate stories about MLB in general going through a large scale cut back of scouting departments again this year.
BP has a story today with a bunch of tweets about teams letting go of respected scouts. Perhaps most interestingly there is one from the Cubs that they let go a bunch of younger scouts and have decided not to do any pro scouting above the complex leagues. I think it's been pretty widespread that teams have largely stopped pro scouting the high minors, but the Cubs - and perhaps others - are stopping all full season scouting.
Additionally, I listened to the BA Future Projections podcast and they did a segment on scout cutting season. They said that this is the biggest cuts since the Covid season. The BA writers mostly work on the amateur side so whereas the BP story mostly focused on the pro scouting side they were seeing a lot of cuts on the amateur side. One bit of speculation that I thought was interesting is that it might be aligned with decreasing percentage of players drafted out of HS that we've been seeing the last couple of years. If teams believe that the college data sources are good and the HS classes are going to be small, then maybe they don't need so many amateur scouts on the ground.

Per Speier, the Red Sox also did not renew: -Ralph Treuel (pitching development advisor) -Walter Miranda (Latin America pitching and rehab coordinator) -Chris Mears (pitching coordinator) -Jimmy Gonzalez (FCL Red Sox manager) -Anthony Turco (pro scout) -Blair Henry (pro scout) -Matt Mahoney (pro scout) www.bostonglobe.com/2024/09/17/sports/red-sox-scouting/?event=event25

I did not realize there were still some folks with the team from the DD (and the Harrington days)! I was three years old when one of them was first hired!

I've long surmised that the consulting firm was engaged to help Breslow get cover to sell Henry on clearing out some folks who've been around for a long time. I don't think this will be the last of it. (Not informed speculation, to be clear.)

The guys they've been hiring all have technical skills like coding, shouldn't be too hard to figure out where this is headed

I am curious when all is said and done, if this might be the season with the most turnover within the FO in a single season...
Usually turnover is a bad thing, but the opposite is also true (stagnation)
