That's an interesting title. I think Boddy said after he left the Reds that he wasn't going to work for a team again unless he got the big seat, but I guess we are making it worth his while for the time being. I'll bet he's getting paid well. His big passion now seems to be building hardware to train AI to look at motion capture data It's probably an absolute nothingburger but the interim part is weird in a funny way. He's THE guy in that sector, worked with us all year, pretty sure we just invented a position/title for him I assume we're compensating quite well, what does he have to do to get the full time gig?

I’m guessing it’s more that Boddy still wants to keep one foot in Driveline but he’s temporarily shifting his focus to help the Sox a bit more until they can find a person for the role.

As best I can tell, we have a "Baseball Analytics" group which is mostly Chaim era hires creating something roughly approximating an inhouse Fangraphs.com, and then a "Baseball Sciences" group which is basically a Driveline franchise..
I'm going to guess "Baseball Sciences" is going to swallow the rest of Baseball Ops whole in time.

So Baseball Analytics will become Baseball Sciences under one leadership.

This is kind of what I thought when I saw interim. He's helping set things up and they gave him a new "position" to pay him to do it, but he's not sticking around in a full-time role.

Does Boddy do media? I'd love to hear him on the podcast.

Does Boddy do media? I'd love to hear him on the podcast. For what it's worth, I don't think he's nearly involved with the Red Sox as people think. I get the sense (no inside info) he's basically on retainer for advice or certain projects, and with this interim job, he's in charge of standing up this new department but he's not going to be doing a lot of stuff that baseball fans are going to find terribly interesting.

www.bostonglobe.com/2024/10/29/sports/boston-red-sox-front-office/Alex Speier on the new reorg. There are four departments: Acquisitions - This is all pro and amateur scouting, headed by Mike Groopman Development - Major and minor league, headed by Paul Taboni R&D - Analytics and sports science, headed by Taylor Smith Operations - Headed by Brian O'Halloran Romero and Ferreira sticking around it sounds like

What is Operations - just like logistics or administrative things as related to the front office? What a weird transition for O’Halloran to go from GM under Bloom for 4 years to that

If you're in charge of that department then you're in the room with the big guy all day I'd bet.

That’s a gotta be an awkward thing if or when they bring in a new GM and it’s like, “This is Brian - he used to have your job. Reach out to him if you need to book something from Expedia”

I think this is where negotiations happen, where contracts get executed, arbitration, where tax and payroll discussions happen. Plus all the external-facing stuff that a ballclub requires. If this were the Celtics, this is probably where Mike Zarren sits.

Yeah he's not logistics so much as "the stuff that happens and needs to be known running a baseball team", as I understand it.
It's more or less where he was prior to becoming GM, I think.

Also of note is that Romero is no longer the head guy for international scouting and the Dominican academy and does not appear to have a well defined role.

Wait, are we calling scouts called "acquisition specialists" now?
This gentleman did Baseball Prospectus' draft board this year, but I don't subscribe. Another guy that can code

Wait, are we calling scouts called "acquisition specialists" now? Nah, I think that means he's in charge of mergers and the like.
