On the bright side, the Red Sox are really in that sweet spot where you can shift even within an inning from checking the scoreboard for the wild card to checking it for tankathon purposes without skipping a beat.

After tonight’s loss they’ll be 1 game better than Tampa with 5 to play vs them, and 2 or 3 games better than Toronto with 3 left to play vs them. These jackasses are going to finish in last place again aren’t they

2024 Sox comebacks history -- games where the team came back from < 25% chance of winning, or lost after getting > 75%.
March 30 to April 16: 1-4.
May 21 to July 5: 9-2.
July 19 to present: 1-11.
The last time the Sox came back to win was July 26 (.117, Abreu vs. the Yankees). And of course they blew a bigger lead (.921) the next day. In this stretch they have blown:

Checking on the out of town scoreboard for tank purposes with the Rays up 5-2, Cardinals are down 1-0 to the Pirates, Reds down 5-2, Blue Jays up 2-0 on the Rangers, Giants up 4-0. If all scores hold, we'll be 4gb back of the Rangers, 3gb of the Pirates, 2.5gb of the Reds, 2gb of the Giants and Blue Jays, 1gb of the Rays and tied still with the Cardinals. We hold the tiebreakers for draft position over the Rangers, Reds, Giants, Blue Jays, Rays, and we lose the tiebreaker against the Pirates and the Cardinals |

Tigers playoff odds were 1.3% on July 30 and got as low as 0.2% on August 11th. |
