My biggest complaint about Cora is encouraging everyone to tough out injuries when it should be obvious that they're just going to play bad This is one of my leading theories as to why the team has faded down the stretch literally every year of Cora's tenure, but there is more digging to do. I just don't understand why he's still doing it. It's one thing to be out 2-3 games with 20 games to go and try to push for that spot. but we're 4 games down with 9 games to go, why the hell is devers still playing? I get how it could be perceived as giving up, or as "tanking," but Devers has struck out three times in back-to-back games, his triple-slash line is .193/.220/.300 good for an OPS of .520 in September. For reference, Nick Sogard has a .574 OPS, the guy isn't contributing to winning baseball either, you've made a huge investment in the guy, for the long-term health of the club and even the short-term chances of the team it'd be probably best to shut him down.

Do we have whispers of what Devers’ injury actually is beyond “shoulder issue”? What is so bad that it’s impairing him in this way, but not yet badly enough that the coaching and training staff somehow aren’t forcing him to sit?

If there's any chance this injury is going to linger into next year I'm going to be very annoyed.

Give me Grissom at second, Devers to the IL, and whomever can field at third for tomorrow I think Grissom hit 400 his last month on the Woo Sox. Lets stop with the playoff pipe dream and try some things. But in fact the playoff pipe dream would be to bring up a hot-hitting Grissom over Sogard (a useful little player but not one you want in the lineup in a do-or-die game.)

I think Lou Merloni had some tweet like he knew what it was and it was bad

Just get it repaired now and have the entire off-season for recovery.

I think all of our greatest fears is some kind of congenital issue. a-la Prince Fielder or David Wright.
