It's not rational to be so confident about it, but I'm nonetheless about 85% sure that they're gonna finish 78-84. So you are going for a three-peat? I had them at 81 wins just before the reg season started. I do not think they will get there. I had them in the high 60s or low 70s I believe. Might have been a bit low, but looking less egregious by the day.

So. How strong is the 25 draft looking? Found this: www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/40617490/2025-2026-mlb-draft-rankings-number-1-prospect-predictionThe 25 draft he has: 50 FV: 1 45+ FV: 2 45 FV: 6 40+ FV: 3 40 FV: 40 Comparing it to his 24 way too early rankings: 50 FV: 2 45+ FV: 3 45 FV: 22 40+ FV: 10 40 FV: 13 So, it is definitely a weaker class at least comparing it like this, but also it's too early to be certain. Charlie Condon was 17th in July last year on that list, Konnor Griffin 27th, Trey Yesavage was unranked.

last 10 road games - 1-9 - batting barely above .200. This is a team that has run out of gas - or they are a car with blown tires.

The Reds just finished off the Braves and the Cards got out of a jam against the Pirates in the top of the 8th. Our realistic hope is that we can suck our way behind either the Reds or the Giants. That would have us drafting no worse than ninth, thanks to the misfortune of the White Sox and A's.
All kidding aside, spending the last two weeks of every season looking at tankathon.com has gotten miserable. And '25 looks like another transition year waiting for the young guys to develop into impact MLers.

Outside of Houk, Bello, Crawford and maybe Slaten we have no semblance of a contending pitching staff. Until that is corrected, transition years will just keep on coming.

I humbly disagree. This team is set up as well as almost any team in the league for 2025.
Seriously, before any of the free agents shake out, it's probably #1 Baltimore and #2 Boston in the AL.

Anyways, I think there's a chance we could get up to something like 5th or 6th if we truly are terrible. Overall for next season I'm hoping for a season comparable to the 2022 Orioles. That team was fun to watch even though 1) they were a rival, and 2) they went 83-79. If I can spend the season being in competitive baseball longer, and get to see the big four adjust to the majors... that'll atleast be exciting compared to the slop of the last month-ish. Ideally, we somehow get to the playoffs, don't know if it happens with the AL East set to be even better considering that the Blue Jays are much better than their record, and the Rays as always, are the Rays and find some devil magic to be competitive.

Wow, 3 straight seasons where the Sox went up 11 games over .500 midseason just to fritter it all away and go under .500, which takes a lot if second half suckiness to be that bad.
The 2001 Red Sox actually got 17 games over .500 but fired Jimy Williams and then under Joe Kerrigan they actually went from 59-42 to 77-79 before rallying to win their last 5 games to land above .500 with an 82-79 record.
This year's team will wind up 78-84 for a 3rd year in a row. They will have a sub .500 record for the 3rd straight season, the first time since the dismal Butch Hobson from 1992 - 1994.

Thhhhhhhe Cardinals win, thhhhhhhe Cardinals win. Nick Yorke had three hits for the Pirates. This was a big night for the tank, boys. There are seven teams to chase in the tank (in theory it's possible you overtake the Nationals but that would require them to actually be competent) We're now down to six teams to chase with us overtaking the Cardinals tonight. Pirates are still four games ahead of us, Rangers/Jays to be determined 7-7 in the 5th. 2GB of the Giants, Rays up just one, so if we go 2-3 at maximum against them we should be ahead of them. Reds also won, so we're 1.5GB against them.

If a team were foolish enough to employ me as a GM I’m pretty sure this would be a DFA. My God what a whiny little b*tch

Fwiw Statcast had the Jose Siri play as .860 xBA - O’Neill did his damn best to try to even make that close on a do-or-die play, but he was like a foot or so off. Jose Siri of course is hitting under the Mendoza line and has the worst K rate and whiff rate in baseball. I just find that viscerally offensive that an MLB player would react that way. Like what do you expect them to do, Josh? Take the runs off the board because it wasn’t hit hard?

“History never repeats itself, but it does rhyme.” A trajectory perfectly calibrated to be maximally disheartening and they've nailed it three years in a row.

If only Breslow picked up Tim Hill instead of Horn… If only Breslow had promoted Yorke & Zeferjahn to Boston, allowed them to lead Sox to the playoffs, and then traded those 2 stars in the off-season for major talent.
