For all those who said the Red Sox would win 78 or fewer….. you are wrong 😀…..on to an over .500 record….

The rest of the year seems like an extended version of spring training 2025. So the guys I'm watching closely the rest of the way are Grissom, Penrod, and Guerrero.
Guerrero has already surpassed anyone not named Slaten. Penrod on looks like a good option to be a second LH reliever in a good bullpen. Waiting for Grissom to hit.

True, at that point I'd almost just shut him down if this was their plan but yea no sense in risking injury I suppose trying to get extra innings out of him for a snowballs chance. Not sure where I saw it but there was a public statement that they wanted Houck to continue pitching (with controlled pitch count) rather than shutting him down and facing the same inning issue next season. I think the thought is that this will raise the bar for Houck next season I wasn't able to tune in until the 7th, but did it look like Houck was pitching more to contact? I ask because of the 0 K's and the workload management.

The plan is to have Guerrero start throwing from the left ? Kidding aside Guerrero/Booser look like potential late inning mirrors to me.

If Bello goes at least 3.2 innings in this next start, Red Sox will have three pitchers hit the 162 inning mark for the first time since 2017.

It's been a bit of a slog, with Crawford and Houck visibly wearing down. I'm hopeful they build on this. I think reinforcements are finally on the way and that should help.

Notes for reference:
If it's Baltimore #1 WC DETROIT #2 WC WC#3: 4-way tie KC-MN-BOS-SEA ... goes to BOS based on 11-8 record vs. other three.
Seattle's presence in the race will slow down Minnesota's effort to eliminate Sox. Sox tragic # vs. MINN is 4, not 3 because of this factor.

There’s so much weirdness where in some scenarios you want team X to lose and then others where you want the same team to win because they set up an inside straight of tie-breaker luck when paired with other teams haha. Let’s just go 5-0, finish on a good note, and see where the chips land. Maybe if the team finishes 1 game out of the playoffs (or loses because of tiebreakers), that will be enough that Henry and Werner can be convinced (and/or shamed) to spend

So Story is on a 3.4 WAR/600 pace, fyi. He's +3 OAA in 192 innings, which is about a +21 pace.

While it's hard to say about a guy who hasn't played 200 games in 3 seasons that his injuries are kind of fluky I think they could be. Perhaps not fluky with the elbow that was a known issue but that brace has seemingly fixed that for the most part but his injury this year was fluky. Do I think he's playing 150 games every year the rest of his career? Nope probably be closer to 120 but I'll take Story for 120 games at SS with his defensive ability.

This is one for the Off-season 2024-25 thread that we are sure to have but I'll mention it here.
If they are serious about taking a big step forward next year, I'd expect them to try and package MM and some other pieces (Wilyer?) for a SP and keep Story at SS.
That way they'd:
- Have a superb defender at SS, an UTM position, something they badly need. - Be able to play Little Raffy in CF and have another great defender UTM. - Hold onto a RH bat. - Get some value out of the last three years of Story's contract, instead of trying to trade him and eating some AAV.

Story has 3.3 WAR in 159 career Red Sox games, so you know we're kinda getting what we pay for in a sense.

Story has 3.3 WAR in 159 career Red Sox games, so you know we're kinda getting what we pay for in a sense. I think fans have an outdated view of what kind of player $20-25 million/year gets you. It doesn’t get you a star player, it gets you a good player with flaws—in other words, an above average regular. The downside risk isn’t really mitigated, since you can still end up with 10% of your payroll out for the year, and those flaws keep the upside from being too high. That’s why John Henry and co. need to grow some stones and be willing to bet big on something, or else he’ll keep seeing the same results (and his much-desired playoff revenues will remain out of reach).

The Blue Jays network puts its each hitters OPS+ on the screen. Grissom entered that PA with a 1. That's the first time I've seen that.

I thought this was a joke, but no looking at baseball reference 1 is correct x.x Since he's come up it hasn't got any better... man am I leaning more towards Campbell making it out of camp.

Not ready to pull the plug on grissom but I'd be lying if the thought that maybe he's just one of those guys who mashes in the minors but can't hit ML pitching didn't cross my mind. Willing to give him a good shot next season though. Feels like calling Campbell up would be a rush job but can't rule him out as an option out of the gate either.
