They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Houck, Bello, Fitts should give our hitters a chance to win it. Also a look at key elements of 2025 rotation depth.

Agree - I see Houck and Bello filling out starters 2 and 3 (not sure which order - doesn't matter). Crawford #4. Offseason task is to get a #1. Giolito and Fitts and Priester can vie for #5.

I think the 19 million dollar man gets first crack. Fitts, Priester, and I assume Criswell get their chances when injuries inevitably happen.

Pretty much exactly how I see it, though I wouldn't rule out them adding two SPs if they can find a 2nd good trade/FA deal they like.

That would be a good and deep rotation while strengthening the Pen. Great beginnings.

Do we even know if Giolito will be healthy enough to start in the rotation at the beginning of the season? He had the internal brace procedure, not Tommy John, so it's possible. Nothing is ever certain but it's not like he had full TJ, which would have put him more in the middle of next year realistically.

edit: bullpen* but it's funnier so i'll leave it.

Do we even know if Giolito will be healthy enough to start in the rotation at the beginning of the season? I believe Giolito had the bracing procedure done as opposed to straight up TJ which if I'm not mistaken is said to have about a 6 month rehab time instead of a full year. If my timelines are correct he might be back to 100 percent by ST if all goes to plan. Same with Whitlock I believe but he had his a few months after Giolito. Chris beat me to it.

I know Whitlock probably won't be back until May or June, but has their been any word about how they're planning to use him?

I think they can recall Criswell before 15 days because the AAA season ended. If that's the case then maybe him. I guess they could do Priester as well. Sounds like they want to have Houck start his 30th then shut him down.

I know Whitlock probably won't be back until May or June, but has their been any word about how they're planning to use him? I'd be surprised if they yet know. A June return could turn into an August return, so I don't think they'll pencil him in for a rotation spot and sign a stop-gap till he arrives, or anything like that. When he's doing his rehab, they'll assess if they want to stretch him out as a starter or not.

I see a much more likely outcome as the Red Sox acquiring another Fitts, Priester, Sandlin type instead of a bonafide 2nd starter with MLB experience.

From Fri: "Which WooSox players should get the call next week?
Sims ... just activated P Garcia ... expected this weekend Grissom ... maybe before Mon. Gasper ... burns an option on 27th P Priester 40 ... pitching for WOR Sat P Alexander non-40 ... pitching for WOR Sun? P Yohan non-40 P Shugart 40 Dalbec non-40 P Mata 60-day ... looks like he's done for year"
5 were added. We may not see any others, as elimination is indefinitely delayed.

We've not yet solved carelessness on the bases. Put it on the 2025 checklist, Alex.

Podunk stadium + podunk tv production = a truly embarrassing visual effect from the CGI ads behind home plate.

Bassitt is walking everybody. Rafaela took one ball, swung at two others - a whiff and a soft lineout. He is a struggling pitcher's best friend.

This team is going to finish 1 or 2 games out of a WC and we'll all lament the absolute garbage baseball played post deadline when the bullpen basically turned every close game into a guaranteed L or the other stretch when they couldn't score a run to save their lives.
