If they get there, I will happily root for Shohei, Mookie, Freddie & Dave Roberts & friends against the Yankees. I mean, I would root for a baseball team consisting of spawn from Hell if they played the Yankees in the World Series - but yeah those guys should be easy to root for

I can already see Ryan Brasier giving up a few bombs to Judge, Soto, and Stanton. Or telling them to get in the f@#king box

Oh....the humanity.

Sorry this is off topic but Story holds the 37th largest contract in MLB history and when he signed it it was the 19th. The fact that the Red Sox have gotten basically nothing out of that deal so far is a testament to how money only gets you so far competitively. Unfortunately this series will embolden the WEEI-Johnnies and make for a long off-season of whining about whatever shiny toy we don't have, rather than focusing on what we do.

Legitimately asking the question since prior years we have used “this wild card team went to the World Series” argument in terms of roster building
Then we have this year as best record vs best record from each league which should not be dismissed

That is not the be all end all, but in 2024 post season it has clearly been the difference maker.

And both teams were willing to spend a lot of money on top tier talent and exist well above the luxury tax limits, something the Sox have resisted for awhile and last did when they really shouldn't have.

Unfortunately this series will embolden the WEEI-Johnnies and make for a long off-season of whining about whatever shiny toy we don't have, rather than focusing on what we do. Not understanding the attitude. It's not about shiny new toys. It's about ownership being willing to pay for and land top end talent and carrying high enough payrolls, existing well beyond the luxury tax limit, so that they could also provide enough quality depth to support their core containing top end talent. You dont have to be a "WEEI Johnnie (from Burger King)" to feel this way. The record the past six seasons is the record, and if they do more of the same, then of course there would be deserved blowback. Personally, I'm in wait and see mode. I dont care for the way the franchise has handled their business the past five seasons in particular. I want them to hang on to their core 4 and I want to see them spend whatever is necessary to supplement it and be serious contenders to win the World Series. It's well past time to flex their financial muscles (not in a moronic way) and act like they're the freaking big and bad Bostom Red Sox.
