Pivetta had a very rough rehab start, but if he has another, that's actually better regardless of how well he just pitched. All the talk about his being ready for the Braves series turns out to make no sense. Right now we're set to have Crawford on 5 days rest and Houck on 4 -- if we insert Pivetta in there, Houck ends up pitching on six days rest, at home against the Nats rather than on the road against the Braves. Give Pivetta another rehab start, on Tuesday, and he returns to MLB on the 12th. Bello has been reported to be having a rehab start on Tuesday and that seems to be a "why not?" decision given the two off-days in 4 days coming up; there's just no room for five pitchers. If Bello starts on Monday, that would fit perfectly: Houck opener TBD and Anderson Criswell --off--- Crawford (5) Houck --off --- Criswell Bello Pivetta (Nats)
Crawford (5) Houck (5) Criswell (Rays at hone)
... continuing on 4 days rest. Sox have 13 games without a break here, all against teams that are at present below average. If Bello starts on Tuesday, Winck gets one more start and Crawford and Houck get 6 days rest, which is questionable.
There aren’t minor league games on Monday any longer. Agree about Pivetta not starting in Atlanta. Not optimal. Will be glad to see him and Bello back.

From 4/21 through 5/5, the Red Sox will have started Winckowski, Anderson, or Criswell in 8 of 13 games. So far they're 6-4 in the first 10 of those. If they can win one game in this series they'll have made it through two weeks with that ugly mess of a rotation with a winning record. I'm no longer entirely sure Criswell and "mess" should be in the same sentence. He just might be a legit starter, and what a pleasant surprise that is/would be. I’m considering Criswell as our 5th starter. IF he’s pitching well. When, Pivetta, Bello and Whitlock are healthy. Love Garrett. But, his body/arm don’t seem to hold up as a starter. Better suited as set-up guy. IMO.

Why would you have McGuire sacrifice? A RHP vs a lefty. To get you to a RH batter hitting .198. No comprende

Houck is just a treat to watch right now What do we have with this guy? Has he gone from a solid starter to elite?

Can’t be easy for a kid from Mississippi to start the year in Maine. Anthony is a Florida kid and Marcelo from SoCal. Real curious to see what they do once it warms up.

I was hopeful that the Breslow/Bailey thing would improve the pitching. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect anything like this. I have my fingers crossed that it continues. They’ve been spectacular. If it looks like it’s going to sustain. We really owe it to team to get a MLB shortstop and play Ceddanne in CF to keep OF defense up. Hope Pivetta and Whitlock get healthy

The team is stacked with young pitching but can't field a competent SS to save their life. Need to go SS in the draft to balance out the system. Hahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahaha Was he cereal?

"This draft is really atrocious after the top tier or two — there’s a very strong group of eight college players who should be the first eight picks in some order, then a decent second tier of guys from the college and high school ranks that maybe gets us to about pick 20, and then the position player group and the college pitchers just kind of fall apart. There are certainly interesting players beyond that, and if you are willing to swim in the high school pitching pond there are plenty of those guys to sign, but this year’s draft is going to have a lot of first rounders who wouldn’t go nearly that high in a typical draft." I'm a broken record with this, but I definitely think if you had to choose an optimal strategy in a vacuum it would be whatever college player in that tier you feel will go underslot and then high school arm in the second. How is 2025 Draft? We should have a Top 10 pick.

Worrying about the floor is why we drafted Yorke and Romero. Draft some GD power arms early and develop them. I think if they were so concerned about floor they would’ve gone college player, I think they picked them because they liked them as prospects Nope. We picked them because we could sign them to under slot deals Chaim was always looking for a bargain.

Orioles are about to be insane when Kjerstad also comes up. It’s basically setting up for them to trade for another Ace because there simply isn’t room for some really high quality guys that are either MLB ready or already on the MLB roster They’re 20 games better than us. If they keep Burnes, I don’t see how we can hang with them for at least 3 years.

Beautiful day here in Pa. 70 degrees at 7p. Will feel like Ft Myers after Portland. High around 70 on Wednesday and Thursday with chances of light rain. More rain on Friday. Clears out for weekend . May need one DH. But, should get 6 in. I’m going on Saturday and Sunday.

5 of only 8 walks on the night too, so it’s not like the opposing pitchers were consistently super wild. Also the Garcias in the Salem box score are going to be very confusing this year I believe confusing names are mandatory. Wait until the scorers get it wrong for daily corrections. I wanted my kid’s middle name to be NMN. When you don’t have a middle name, that’s what military used to fill in space. I got talked out of that😂

We started 2019 season on the west coast. Lost 3/4 in Seattle, then 3/4 in Oakland and 2/3 in Arizona. I remember Cora mentioning that start after the season. Had a lousy spring training that year. Hope our solid spring training doesn’t allow that to happen again.
Obviously, I’d rather have a great team like 2018. But, following a developing but talented team is interesting.

Part of me is screaming “make it happen”! Part of me is whispering… who is this guy. 5’10”, 30-years-old, average fastball velocity… are we *sure* about this? in my mind it kind of comes down to how you feel about analytics versus more traditional scouting. He’s small, gives up some home runs and has average velo. However, all the advanced pitching metrics love his stuff and i think a few changes to his approach to pitching could lead to him becoming a very good pitcher. I like this a lot more with breslow, Bailey, and Willard in the organization now compared to how i would have felt about it last year. Add: I should clarify i don’t mean it’s either one or the other as far as analytics or scouting, most teams are going to use both and they both have pros and cons. Just teams that rely more heavily on analytics are probably going to like him more than those who don’t. I’m getting Kei Igewa vibes about him. Yankees consolation prize for not getting Dice-K

I think Yamamoto ends up with one of NY teams. Snell is our fallback option. Just reading the tea leaves. Snell has pitched well in big games. Hope it’s not more than 6 years.

I remember Heymen saying Max Scherzer will sign with west coast team only because of family reason but he signed with the Mets. Yamamoto will go where the money is they always do.False. For instance ... The Red Sox outbid the Mariners for Adrian Beltre the first time he was a free agent. They wanted to use him at SS for a year until
Bill Mueller's contract was up. Why the heck did we let him leave? If he stays, Youk stays at 1b. We don’t trade for Adrian Gonzalez or sign Pablo Sandoval. Oy vey
