Valdez is all like, Grissom who? Sat behind a guy at Thursdays game at Fenway South who was from Atlanta. When I mentioned Grissom to a buddy next to me, the guy turned around and said "You can have him. He can hit for average, but doesn't have much power and definitely can't field". This guy was large, muscular had a shaved head and thick neck..think Telly Savalas on steroids. Wasn't going to argue...

Wonder why Bleis keeps rising despite missing pretty much all of last season. Because he is a stud in waiting. If healthy this year, watch out. SteveofBradenton and I have seen him in the flesh. He is a comer from our standpoint...fast, athletic, of good size, a gifted fielder and can impact the baseball.

Buddy, if you can call that up from memory, you are on a higher plane....and I want a pint of your blood...😵💫😊 Sarasoxer, all I remembered was they had tied the record with 2, 50 pts plus wins not that long ago so it was a much smaller feat than you are giving me credit for. Nevertheless, the requested exchange of blood stands. 😊

Buddy, if you can call that up from memory, you are on a higher plane....and I want a pint of your blood...😵💫😊 So in my earlier years I remembered everything every conversation I had with everyone, now of course I'd forget shit but it bounced around in my head so that eventually every thought was there and recalled. That was back in the day and I was absolutely convinced that ANYONE that did not recall all details like I did was lying to me. Well many years older I've learned not only was that in-accurate but now I believe at least half the people were actually telling me the truth as I was convinced these sons of bitches were all in fact all lying. Now a little bit older I realize shit at least half these guys were telling their own truth. Crap. Perspective can be both a great thing and not so much. Just saw on the Athletic that you were right! Congrats!

So since the start of February, which is my B-Day btw, the Warriors had the second-best record, in other words, the Celtics just faced the second-hottest team in the NBA for the past 5 weeks and still beat them by 52 points and if I'm not mistaken, going by memory here, they've become the first team in NBA history to win 3 games in a season by 50+ points. Buddy, if you can call that up from memory, you are on a higher plane....and I want a pint of your blood...😵💫😊

Man Crawford looked good! The secondary's were sharp. He could really take it to another level this year! I hope so Steve, but I'm not going to refill my Kool Aid glass. I wonder what his performance would be if he had a more conventional delivery...He almost looks like a catcher throwing... more short armed. Sitting at home watching him throw with effort, I sometimes reflexively grunt with each pitch...as if I'm helping him. Like several of our starters, stuff/effectiveness diminishes second/third time around. The effort he exerts pitch to pitch has to effect a drain and contribute to that result.

I've almost had my yearly fill of Will Fleming & his endless string of opinions. Can he not just call the action on the field & mix in the occasional observation organically (like Joe C has done masterfully for many years Always have enjoyed Fleming. He and Joe are like Yin and Yang. Joe is so excitable and Fleming calming. Good duo.

Kavadas with an RBI single. I want to see him hit 40 bombs in AAA this year Hit higher than .250 and have less than a 25% strikeout rate. If so, I'm in,

Assuming the Red Sox miss out on Imanaga/Snell/Montgomery, I don't understand why the Red Sox would trade for a top-of-the-rotation controllable SP. Most of us can agree that the team hasn't gotten markedly better thus far, and it seems unlikely that the next tier of free agents would move the needle much. Given the expected costs (big 3 +), why go after a Luzardo/Cease/Keller/Gilbert/Kirby? If there is an unwillingness to invest in a playoff or championship-caliber team, it doesn't make sense to give up a prospect haul now for somewhat limited “useful” control. If the timeline to compete is more like 2025 or 2026 (when Anthony/Mayer/Teel are expected to contribute), go get a controllable starter next offseason. I would understand if they wanted to go out and get someone they deem a bit of a project like Edward Cabrera or Michael Grove with mid-rotation potential to work with during a bridge year. But going "all out" on one of the aforementioned guys makes little sense given what we know right now. Impatience will make us wait even longer for the next great Red Sox team. Agree with this assessment totally. Even if one of those 3 do sign, we will have a ways to go. DON'T do something stupid and trade one of our top 3. Just don't do it!! Hear ye, hear ye....

Not going to complain over 5% but the Dodgers 100% deserve to live in CBT hell for eternity and I hope to/can’t wait to watch them squirm in 5 years Going to update my daily supplement list in hopes I can see that day. Even squinting I can't see that far ahead.

“Jordan actually saw fewer pitches per plate appearance than Rafaela did last year. 3.30 in High-A and 3.23 in Double-A. Latter number is the lowest among players in the system with 50 PA at a level above the complexes.” — Curious about how much weight to attach to this metric. Does it correlate in a statistically meaningful way with other things that matter (OPS, etc)? Yes, it would correlate to a low number of walks…..couldn’t resist….. Wonder if, with what is alluded to here, he feels compelled to commit early because of difficulty in catching up to a good fastball. Is he Dalbecian?

I actually think Joe does a good job calling loud outs, and I don't consider it a negative over those types of calls at all. I mean, I hold my breath when Judge hits one to the warning track when I watch it on TV, and I get basically that same excitement when I listen to him on the radio. Joe adds excitement because that is who he is. His reactions are genuine. The excitement generated by those calls are not a negative. The negative is for me personally as I need wardrobe changes resulting therefrom.

Forever my favorite radio voice in any sport Yeah...Who doesn't like Joe. The only negative is he had me wet my pants a couple of times each game with his initially excited calls for what turned out to be routine plays. "High Deep Drive....going to be caught" You knew that he was a true Red Sox fan and genuine all the way.

The Padres also appear to have nine openings on their 40-man, which is probably why they still have Jay Groome on it. They're expecting quite a haul for Soto. Carpe Diem.....Yanks need him badly. Leverage my boy.…

The Yankees finished ahead of the Red Sox last season despite pretty much everything going wrong for them, and as of right now fangraphs' Depth Charts has them as about 5 wins better for 2024. They also have some pretty obvious upgrades they can make (LF, 3B) whereas the Red Sox' situation is murkier. Doesn't seem like much of a mystery. From what I read, the Yanks are about the only serious contender for Soto. That guy is young, hits for average, great power (probably 40+ hrs. with Yanks) and has an incredible eye....Boggsian OBP....just what the Yankees have lacked... If that trade goes thru, they will be very tough with that pitching...See Ya. I'd rate them favorites pending...

There's lots of teams that talk about sacrificing individual production for the good of the team, but it's hard for guys to actually do it. Low ego, team first guys like Holiday, White and Horford are rare, and that attitude looks like its rubbing off on Porzingis and Brown. That attitude was pervasive with the Celtics of old and I've longed for its return. It made my wife a fan too.

Pritchard, Brissett, Hauser and Horford...6-9 on the squad...totaled 62 minutes playing time and produced only 8 points.
We need more from our bench.

Just being able to watch games and NOT scream at my teevee when Grant incessantly babbles to the refs, or Smart sees himself as the one to take the critical end of game shot is thrilling to me. I can't wait for the season to start. I feel your pain...and Hope to add the demise of hero ball in games down the stretch. Realistically and undoubtedly tho something will crop up to take their place. It seemingly always does. Still, I can't wait to start this next journey ..

This is simple we would of gotten our answers if Bloom just got some pitching at the deadline. In effect this let Cora off the hook to me. It's not fair to keep running bullpen games. We are the Red Sox this is our city!. LOL. Cora if he got a starter or two The front office would be able to make a fair evaluation on him. This got him a mulligan for this season. Just my opinion. The team did fight. I pointed out the problem with SS and to a lesser 2b. This wasn't dealt with either not to a satisfactory degree. Totally unacceptable. I listen to the guys on the podcast. I agreed all year with them. I know its gonna get panned in the local news I think give it internally, I already said Romero Jr. Pair these two. If this doesnt work then get new Baseball OPPS.and let him pick the manager. Clean slate. That would have been great! But, at what cost? For a couple of middling innings eaters we could have tossed in Verdugo and, take your pick, Mayer, Rafaela, Gonzalez etc. Our impending FAs would not have mattered. Sorry, that doesn't make it for me. Yeah, we would be better short term but bitching long term in mediocrity. How about a mix of the Oriole's process (sage high draft picks) and Tampa (find the off radar gems?).

Ah yes, I remember how young Eddy Rodriguez, Mookie Betts and JBJ were trained to enjoy losing and not care as young major leaguers in 2015 and 2016, amidst a culture of below-.500 baseball. Yes. Young You don't make it as far as Wilyer and Ceddane and Casas and Wong and the rest if you adopt a "who gives a shit" culture. Of couurse the draft is a crapshoot, but you sure as heck have better odds at 7, 8 or 9 than you do at 13 or 14. Come on now. I can agree that the manager looks incompetent, and has been spectacularly so in his management of the bullpen and unwillingness to play for a win. Nor is he holding the troops together very well. And his petty spats vs Bloom and players IMO hurt the team. I hope the Sox can do better/and or the new PBO can pick his own manager and coaching staff. I don’t believe the players have mailed it in. Abreu, Bello, Bernardino, Crawford, Dalbec, Duvall, Houck, Kelly, McGuire, Murphy, Rafaela, Reyes, Walter, Whitlock, Winckowski, Wong are, each and every one, fighting for jobs. Why would they be quitters? We have been thru crappy seasons before. I grew up on, and am therefore comfortable with “wait til next year”. Especially in the knowledge that this ownership group will continue to win again and again. Glad this is over but anticipate missing Sox games as early as next week. Gerry I agree with all you said excepting that Cora is a poor manager.....Surely nobody thought so in 2018...Hell he was trumpeted as a saint and mastermind...108 f...ing wins. Every year most teams that are truly out of it give the up-and-comers a taste. Forever that seems to have been the model..It does not mean that a team is trying to lose or trying not to win. Often teams and management are lauded for this process especially if those newbies produce the following year. He 'Got his feet wet'..'Saw what the Bigs are about'..'Found out what he needs to work on'...'Team got a chance to see what they have' yada, yada. I believe all of that has value over and above pulling out every stop (like getting Jansen in 3 days in a row) to scrape out one or two more meaningless wins...It doesn't teach or foster a losing attitude in the players. If that were the case we'd sign every cast off major league player and put them on our .500 or below minor league teams. We'd surely win a few more milb games than we have been. And, how often has it been said here...'Sox minor league records are unimportant. The minors are for developing players'. The cherry here, of course, is that we get a higher draft pick. I'll gladly take another Teel or Mayer. I hope at draft time too we 'beat the Yankees' out of a player they covet.

Hilarious.....That reminds me of his similar performance in Stripes ginning up the misfits in his unit the night before a graduation presentation before a visiting general... "We're mutants..." So, taking liberties... And absolutely win or lose it doesn't matter for the Sox at this stage. I take solace in elevated draft picks at any loss.

Their run differential is now exactly 0. I'd call that fairly mediocre. Having lost 5 of their last 6 one-run decisions, they've fallen behind their pythagorean win expectation (which is obviously 78-78, given the run differential). So we can add "bad luck" to the things that account for their bad record... except I don't think it's luck so much as the fact that they stopped trying a couple weeks ago. Which I don't love as a fan, I have to say. Did Abreu and Duval luck out today swinging nonchalantly but somehow hitting long homers? Were our pitchers not trying in this series but somehow had good results regardless? Has Devers thrown in the towel notwithstanding that his average has consistently climbed over the past months and he has registered 33 homers on the season? Are players not running out balls? Is it happenstance that the Sox have the 3rd highest team batting average in baseball and dwarf the Yankees' team average by 35+ points? If so, I can't wait until the team wakes up and really gives honest effort. Let's DFA or trade the slackers who don't care to earn their money. See how they'd like to push burgers and fries at Mickey D's....

I've always liked Cora. He relates well with his players, is seemingly forthright, is articulate, good with the press and reputedly is a good, modern baseball mind. He is not yesterday's former player come manager. At some point I suppose all managers get a bit stale...and with Chaim being replaced, does ownership decide now is the opportune time for a full cleansing. Even if so, I think the organization highly values Cora and he will be offered a respected place. I cant help but wonder if Cora manages for 2 or 3 more seasons and then moves upstairs in some capacity to make room for Jason Varitek to become the next manager, win-win for both guys. I've always had the impression that managing is not what Varitek would be comfortable with or interested in.
