Am I insane for not wanting a barely 6ft RHP at the highest pick we hopefully have in the foreseeable future? Thank God we passed on that Martinez guy..... (Sorry FITF, couldn't resist )

If Houck emerges as a solid, cost controlled #4 or #5, with the possibility of maybe a bit higher that is huge value - not something that you dismiss out of hand because he's not "top of the rotation". He's silencing a talented offensive (in more ways than one) tema that's on a roll, maybe give him a little respect.

What is with the Rays? When we needed to beat them they beat us. Now when we need them to beat us they are losing. Do they exist just to foil the Sox?

Actually the 60's (1963 The Angels, My Boyfriend's Back) but since this year seems like 10 for many reasons you get a pass....1953 it is.

I'm sure there is not a person alive who wants to be eternally judged by what they did on their worst day. I cetrainly don't want to be,nor do I want to be the one who judges others that way. Just something to consider.

Wel now the Red Sox strategy is obvious - they have figured out that Robo Umps will favor hitters by making the strike zone more consistent and thereby smaller as well. Therefore they are going to start collecting upside bats that will hit The Show just about the time that comes to pass.

Or here's a thought- have some national leadership. Make masks mandatory when going out in public out of respect for the workers who are now literally risking their lives. Guarantee a living wage (call it combat pay if you must) to those same workers. Pass health care insurance so that anyone can go get medical attention without fear of bankruptcy. If all that is done you will have established a firm base for the economy from which it can rebuild. But if they keep funneling all the wealth up to the top then no one should be surprised at how weak and vulnerable the base of the societal pyramid has become with consequences that look more like the third world than the first.

I disagree. Unless there is a vaccine, there will be outbreaks in training camp, which will force them to shut it down. They will have no choice. There’s a zero percent chance there’s a vaccine this calendar year. I'll take the under.

I think this is going to be the most interesting season in a while (if there is a season). Not that it has been boring watching BB & TB run over a league that did everything they could to take them down including ginning up molehills into mountainous "gates" so they could take away draft picks - deflategate was one of the most ridiculous melodramas in the history of sports. But now we get two story lines: An aging Brady with a new team and the most weapons he's had since 2007 - can he lift up the Bucs like Theo did the Cubbies? And can Belichick win without the GOAT, with a mid round 2nd year QB - has anyone done something like that before? (/s)

Trump banned Chinese Nationals only, Americans were allowed home and non Chinese were also allowed in. I can't find the report now butfor weeks there were over 80 flights a day from Beijing landing in LA, SF and NYC. Also prior to the ban in late January over 300,000 Chinese nationals had entered the US. Trump has denied, delayed, lied, refused to take any responsibility (his words no less), lied, promoted conspiracy theories, put dim bulb Jared in charge, ignored warnings...the list goes on. If I didn't believe he was too stupid I would think he was a foreign agent deliberately trying to undermine the country. But he's just a very small, greedy, deranged narcissist who happens to have excellent feral instincts and is an all time good con man who will play anyone for a sucker.

One problem with looking at the recovered/death stats as a percent of cases is that the resolution takes 7 to 14 days from the time a case is considered severe enough to track to an outcome. That means that the denominator should be total cases from 7 to 14 days earlier all of which makes the whole situation even scarier.

trump imposed the travel ban on non-US citizens from China on January 31. Prior to the ban about 300,000 foreign nationals had arrived from China during the month. In addition, US citizens continued to arrive from China to the tune of 20 to 30 planes a day landing in SF, LA and NY. This according to Ron Klain who coordinated the US response to the Ebola outbreak who called trump action a "Travel Band-Aid". www.factcheck.org/2020/03/the-facts-on-trumps-travel-restrictions/The only "credit" the ignoramus of 1600 should get is for increasing the number of people who will perish from this scourge.

philsbosoxfan I was curious as to how you can be 1500 miles from the nearest confirmed case of Covid-19 and looking at a map it seemed like that is really hard to do unless you're in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Just how remote are you?

Because Ebola and SARS are much harder to transmit and the Swine Flu had a lower mortality rate. Here no one really knows, early indications are that COVID-19 is 20 to 30 times more deadly than the flu and while it may be harder to transmit, no one knows for sure and no one knows how to tell if one has been exposed. Fear of the unknown is often the driver of panic and that's what we are faced with.

OK guys, for a numerate group there seems to be a lot of misinformation here. The flu has an average mortality rate of 0.1% in the US over the last 10 years with deaths totaling around 360,000 during that time frame. So on average 36,000 die each year and 36,000,000 get the flu. It appears that COVID-19 is harder to transmit than the flu which is a good thing, but at the moment the observed mortality rate is north of 3.0% or thirty times more lethal than the typical flu. This is somewhat ameliorated by the fact infections are likely under-reported (particularly in the US) due to lack of testing, a situation that is only going to improve slowly, but it's not going to 0.1%. As for the markets, they have been living on a sugar high for years with everything going 110% perfectly. That bubble was just there waiting to be pricked and the slowdown that is already baked in the cake because of COVID-19 which provided the needle. Yes the virus is causing concern, but there is no panic like rich people with hot money losing in the market and the stampede for the exits is a sight to behold.

LOL lots of "ifs" here so I'll add mine. IF Duran has a breakout year (assuming he even gets more than a cup of coffee) and IF Verdugo proves healthy and productive THEN JBJ is allowed to walk and IF the Sox can sign Mookie THEN Benni is the one traded.
