I've been a big fan of Noe Ramirez for awhile. He showed why in that inning. He has a devestating change up that will get him to the major leagues. I really like his projectibilty as a mid-inning reliever with a swing and miss out pitch Is it possible to get excited about a mid innings reliever?

People got awfully excited about losing Michael Olmsted last year...

Seems like Taz got tons of support back in 2011-12 when he projected as a 7th inning reliever so Ya Noe can generate some love too.

Thanks for posting this again. Good to re-read his story. I agree whole heartedly. Not only is it nice to get a tiny glimpse into the ethics of this young man, it's always important to develop any type of reliever, whether closer, middle, setup, even long reliever and IMO? All teams should start doing it early, like Seattle has begun to do when they draft pitchers and immediately begin their professional careers along a certain path. It has already paid huge dividends with them. Not calling on outright drafting of pitchers for certain jobs (like they did with a Kendal Volz), but after a season, if a certain pitcher is having huge troubles with a 3rd pitch and was.. Say already a 3y college player? Depending on what those 2 pitches were, or even if he has 3 pitches, move that player into a specified relief role and develop them along that path. Understand have become a broken record with certain names have mentioned, but as examples? How many pitches too many did Alex Wilson waste throwing as a starter? Not needed wear and tear when everyone knew he was going to be a reliever? It's the exact same thing with Pat Light, we know it's going to be the same thing with RDLR. Wasting wear and tear with throwing more pitches is asking for an injury on their arm, lost velocity sooner.. it makes sense to groom them young and get them to the bigs sooner.

I see where you're coming from, but developing a prospect as a starter enables said player to get a feel for, and refine, his pitches, at least that's how I see it.

You have to be careful though to not overthink it and lose out on good starters. Workman was a sure bet to be a reliever by many and while he still may be he's shown good stuff as a starter. Would Doubront have made it as a starter?

Allen Webster pitched well tonight. I tuned in late, after he had left the game, my bad.

Actually, Shaw arguably had the most impressive performance on the batting power lists; at worst he was second to Kris Bryant. He was the only player with 3 of the 25 hardest-hit balls they tracked, including #2. All three of his were harder than Bryant's hardest. Bryant hits the ball more in the air, so he had the #2 and #8 best hit balls in terms of exit speed plus angle, while Shaw was #4 and #10, but Shaw is ahead of him on the actual longest homer list, #4 versus #10. Cecchini had the #8 longest homer. It's interesting that their radar technology measures the actual slider spin rate, whereas with pitch/fx data all we can do is estimate the spin rate in the direction of home plate, which is a function of the actual spin rate plus the degree to which the spin axis is angled to be parallel to the flight of the ball rather than perpendicular.

Callis and Mayo are out with their top 20 AFL prospects.
Cecchini is #16 and Betts is #19.
CHC with three on the list; no other team had more than two on the list (TOR, MIN, MIA also with two).

Example of the talent in the AFL with Cecchini at only #16. Enjoyed watching the AFL games on MLB this year as much, or more than many regular season Sox minor league games on MiLB.com because of the top prospects sprinkled in.

Not a ton happening abroad lately, but some notes:
Alex Hassan has joined Licey in the DWL. Was kind of wondering why he wasn't in winter ball, but maybe he needed some more time to heal up from his various maladies this season.
JC Linares went from playing in the DWL to Venezuela. Never seen that before. The VZ team was listed as having him on their roster in the preseason, so they had his rights - maybe he wasn't playing in the DWL and his team let him go to VZ so he could play.
Stefan Welch was activated by Adelaide in the Aussie League.

If JCL wanted to go play in Japan could he just up and go? I assume he can, I don't understand why he wouldn't... Ay be he's it wanted.

Well well well a big bump here but I guess you guys would like to know how things are going at least in the DR. Needless to say there was some drama, there is no Beisbol without some drama in DR, but my Tigres del Licey advanced to face El Escogido in the final after beating Los Gigantes in a 1 game play-off.
The drama was how we got there. On Friday both games were simultaneous ( Aguilas-Gigantes, Licey-Escogido). Licey and Gigantes were tied, Aguilas one behind, Escogido had already qualified. Licey got off to an early lead, Las Aguilas were winning their game, which meant Licey would advance to the final, in the 8th inning las Aguilas put men on base but there was a delay when the lights were turned off at the stadium which meant the other game would finished earlier. Las Aguilas were eliminated with the Licey win. The lights came back immediately following the Licey-Escogido game becoming final but still las Aguilas were winning and with men on base. They managed to load the bases with 1 out and their best hitter coming up but he didn't go up to bat instead a guy who had taken two ABs all season went up to bat, he struck out, then another pinch hitter who had not played all season, he struck out too. Then in the bottom of the 8th more mysterious stuff, las Aguilas started to throw the ball away and it was tied then they lost. They threw the game away blantly but nobody care in DR, well Licey fans do, but the league will do nothing and really there are stories like that every year specially between Aguilas and Licey.
Saturday was the 1 game play-off between Licey-Gigantes a lot of stuff happened in the game, it was a great dramatic game as we like it in DR. Licey were leading 7-3 in the 7th but then Los Giganes put on 5 run rally to take an 8-7 lead, highlighted by Former Red Sox prospect Engel Beltre, yes my main man, letting the ball roll all the way to the wall and a guy who had not play in the postseason for them hitting a 2-run double. Licey tied it in the top of the 8th setting it up for Juan Francisco, yes the former top prospect, to become part of Licey lord. He hit an absolute bomb, like the 480ft one he hit for the Reds but farther, and stood at the plate for like 3 minutes and pumped his way around the bases, that's how we like it. Juan Cruz, yes the guy who used to be a big league reliever, closed it out 1-2-3.
Now the fans of the Aguilas are getting teased and if Licey win the final, hard because Escogido have a very strong team, they will hear us tell that story for the rest of their lives like many others of the same ilk.
Hopefully I can celebrate another title just like with the Red Sox.
Sorry for the length of the post but a lot of stuff to give you a clearer picture.

Let me elaborate now that I can.....
It was a great series with most games being competitive. Licey won the 1st three games of the 1st to 5 series, including a Fernando Rodney blown save with an RBI double from Lew Ford. Then Escogido won 3 straight to tie the series, highlighted by the poor Licey defense especially Emilio Bonifacio who commited 3 errors that led to runs while playing 2nd base. Monday was a very tense game, 1-1 heading the top of the 9th, Felix Perez, he plays for Cincinnatti I believe, had a 2-run triple for Licey to take a 3-1 lead. Escogido managed to put two men on, no outs with Gregory Polanco coming to bat, this is why winter league experience is great for young players to learn on big tense moments, but he poped out to 3rd then Yankee killer Ciriaco grounded into a double play to end the game.
Let's just say my heart was in my hands wishing Koji somehow made an apperance during the bottom of the 9th.
Then tonight Escogido took a 1-0 lead in the 1st then Licey tied it without even getting a hit. Then Escogido took a 2-1 lead then Rene Rivera homered for Licey's first hit to tie the game. The biggest inning was when Escogido managed the bases loaded, they had men on base basically every inning, with two outs a flair over the head of the second baseman Bonifacio made a great play and caught it to end the threat, he redeemed himself some more later driving in the game winging run with a flair to CF that Ciriaco almost caught. Carlos Santana, yes the Cleveland guy who actually looked ok at 3rd in the series, struck out to end the game.
Licey Campeon (Champion), which is chanted every game no matter if Licey won or if it's November, for the 21st time breaking the tie with the hated Aguilas. I complete my double hopefully this year will be as good!!!!

“@dakern74: Yes, Julio Lugo just hit a three-run homer to score Ronny Paulino and Emilio Bonifacio. What year is this? @cantpredictball #SerieDelCaribe”
