Yes. It would have been careless of Fox and Major League Baseball to focus on one person at the expense of others deserving attention during the 2014 All-Star Game.

The Texas Rangers have recalled JP Arencibia. Yes, he of the .255 career OBP, and .222 OBP since the start of 2013. Now, you may be thinking to yourself "that's some pretty remarkable out-making ability, but the offensive bar for catchers is quite low these days." That would be true, but the Rangers are going to play Arencibia at first base.
This is one of those times where the overly-used term "replacement level" seems applicable. There is freely available talent that can put up an on-base percentage higher than .255. It wasn't that long ago that the Rangers seemed to be an organization that had an idea what was going on.

To be fair, the Rangers are pretty clearly punting the season. Hell, playing Arencibia at 1B the rest of the year is a pretty damned great way of tanking.

Joe Strauss ?@joestrauss 8m
Though most doubt a mega-deal likely, am told Cardinals have had internal talks about a very big fish. High-end prospects in play.
Stanton, Tulo, Price ? I'm taking a wild guess that the very big fish isn't Peavy.

Tulo might be a better fit.

That would make Stanton a "humongous fish".

Carp can get to be pretty big.
I just read that RA Dickey has no UCL. How does that work?

Yes. It would have been careless of Fox and Major League Baseball to focus on one person at the expense of others deserving attention during the 2014 All-Star Game. Something like this would've been simple to do.

I agree. I making a shot in reference that the entire broadcast was focused on one person. They asked MVP Mike Trout what he thought about Jeter, and credited Jeter for the Mariners success, because Jeter taught Cano how to win, and he then taught that skill to the M's. It was hilarious, and for them to come back and to say that they couldn't reference Gwynn because they didn't want to focus on one guy at the expense of others is a bit ironic.

My bad, I quoted the wrong post. I got the Jeter joke, but I messed up and quoted you instead of the post above you with Bud's statement.

That is the same Jose Alvarez who was signed by the Red Sox and dealt as part of the deal to acquire Jeremy Hermida.

Josh Norris ?@jnorris427 9m New #Padres prospect RJ Alvarez brings his fastball up to triple-digits.

That is the same Jose Alvarez who was signed by the Red Sox and dealt as part of the deal to acquire Jeremy Hermida. Nope. It's actually RJ Alvarez. Angels gave up a B/B- prospect and two C+ prospects for Street and a 2013 draftee/bullpen arm.

That is a better return for the Padres and I got to be reminded about the Jeremy Hermida era, so even though I ended up wrong it's a win-win.
