Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part but i'm beginning to think that the Red Sox are not the least bit interested in trading away anybody for John Farrell and that's why we're starting to hear the names that are coming in for interviews.

Beyeler is reportedly not being considered because he has no major league experience, managing, playing, coaching, or otherwise. They've stated they're not as focused on candidates having prior MLB managing experience, but they want them to have MLB experience in some form. That seems reasonable to me.

It is interesting that nothing has "leaked". I think they hired Guido to take care of the snitch. They have certainly gone underground with this managerial search. You may be right that "paying" for the hiring of John Farrell is not on their to-do list.

Talk is strong that Joe Torre would consider managing again and the 72-year-old has always had an affinity for Boston. I'd be on board with it if a strong bench coach who eventually could take the reins were party of the equation. Ausmus, Varitek, etc could learn under Torre and eventually succeed him....

I have no interest in watching Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a meaningless solo home run, get back to the dugout, and receive a gentle kiss on the cheek from Joe Torre.
Let's not kid around, here.

What has MLB.com been smoking? You start out asking for the sun, the moon and the stars and work your way down but this is demanding the whole universe and throwing a tantrum when they laugh at you.

Probably not going to happen, but I want them to just go ahead and name the blank manager by this Friday. Hope Ausmus wows them or Wallach did.
And with respect to John Farrell: tell the Jays after today's interview you will be hiring this week so get off your ridiculous demands or Farrell is yours.
Hiring a manager is important, but if one of these guys is impressive, give him a 3-year and start "plotting" your course for the rest of the off-season. Start calling and touching base with the other clubs. Start calling the free agent's AGENTS and say hello.
And especially figure out what the blank Scott Boras and Jacoby Ellsbury want......and move on to Plan B if necessary.

If somehow Farrell is nabbed, it may make it easier not to houseclean those in the coaching staff that he is familiar with. But honestly, can we get much comfort in Farrell noting the Toronto decline over two years and the tanking of its pitching...his supposed forte'?
I would like to take a different course. I don't want vestiges of the bygone Terry era. It was beloved...let it go. We have bad feelings about 9/2011 and all of 2012. I would feel better putting all that behind us. We now have a clean financial slate and I would like to see a fresh start across the board...players, coaches etc. So often with managers, it's musical chairs. Let's give someone new a chance.

Updates on managerial search:
The Red Sox will interview Yankees bench coach Tony Pena today, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com
The Red Sox have plans to interview Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale for the position at some point this week, according to Bradford.
Joe Torre said he has no plans to manage and isn't a candidate for the Red Sox position, John Tomase of the Boston Herald reports. Nick Cafardo reported yesterday that there's talk Torre would consider managing again.

Nick Cafardo @nickcafardo Pena received permission from Yankees to interview on offday. Could have waited until end of playoffs but Red Sox seem to be in hurryup.

Now we're gettin' somewhere. None of the candidates interviewed last year have been mentioned, but maybe they're interviewing new guys first. Presumably they remember how last year's interviews went. I'd be surprised if they don't take another look at Sandy Alomar Jr (catchers seem to be in vogue), and Lovullo (Sox org experience) once they give up on Farrell.

Its amazing. Every coach they've interviewed or appear to be scheduled to interview is better than any candidate they interviewed last year

Told Tim Wallach was very impressive in Red Sox interview. Not sure its enough to get the job. - Cafardo

I like the idea of Tony Pena. My only concern is how he would handle the media because despite his MFY experience he's kind of a blank slate in that area (KC being what it was/is).
Also agree - this is a great pool thus far.

"MLB.com mentions De La Rosa as a potential compensation" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ha!
"I like the idea of Tony Pena. " ----------------------------------------- NESN is a big factor. Can't handle that you aren't getting the job. I don't mean this to sound rude but Tony probably fulfills affirmative action requirements by MLB.
" Told Tim Wallach was very impressive " I'm still thinking Farrell. Toronto may be stuck with him--if they overplay things-- and a poor start dooms him as the first to go '13 (maybe). I also had a laugh at Nick's column yesterday suggesting that the Blue Jays are possibly the better job --than RS--because of less rebuilding to do.

I also had a laugh at Nick's column yesterday suggesting that the Blue Jays are possibly the better job --than RS--because of less rebuilding to do. The evidence suggests the Jays have a better GM, an ownership group without Lucchino, and a less stressful position overall. Less prestige, if you care about that sort of thing.

You and I have a different standard of what qualifies as "evidence." One is just a fact, one is a God-given truth, and the other, well, we only hope Ben can match his western neighbor.

Read the Edes article from late last night on ESPN Boston: Never saw this connection: "All four managers currently alive in the postseason are the same: Matheny, Joe Girardi, Bruce Bochy and Jim Leyland, with Leyland the only one who never made it to the big leagues as a player. Tracy Ringolsby of FoxSports.com notes that since the wild card was added in 1995, 12 former catchers have managed teams in the league championship series a total of 31 times, led by Joe Torre's 10."All 4 of these guys WERE catchers!! Hire Tony Pena or Brad Ausmus immediately!! Here is the article (must read): espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/8507742/dismiss-brad-ausmus

Pena sounds upbeat.
This managerial process seems much quieter than last year - it's wonderful.
