Thank you, Chris. I only looked at the Rule 5 Wiki and should have looked at the rule itself. Basically, before you can send them down, you have to both offer him back to old team and give everyone else a chance to take him under Rule 5 rules. This happened with Cesar Cabral the first time he was picked. Picked by Rays, claimed by Toronto, then re-claimed by Rays, then sent back to Boston before opening day.

Not that the Red Sox need more OF help, but any chance Deshields has enough speed to stick for a year?

Draft is starting now.
Keep in mind that CHC owes BOS a PTBNL after the draft concludes (Doubront trade).

www.baseballamerica.com/minors/notable-players-available-rule-5-draft/Jandel Gustave, rhp, Astros: In a game in which power arms are coveted, Gustave throws as hard as anyone. Up to 100 mph at his best, Gustave would be making a massive leap to the big leagues. He struggled in the low Class A Midwest League. But a team that isn’t going to compete for a playoff spot in 2015 could decide to stash him in a limited role.

Bos picks RHP Jandel Gustave from HOU. Seems like a stretch, but I guess it's possible to skip 3 levels when going from starter to reliever? He supposedly has really good stuff.

Basically, BOS lost one A-ball flamethrower and picked another.
Major league portion is done. No other Red Sox picks or players selected.
Edit: they are trading Gustave, per Speier.

HOUS lost 3 players in this draft. rockies lost 2
with 4 no-name LHP selected, you'd think the Sox would take a shot at one. Unless Oliver is absurd.
