Nice to see everyone contributing, and to get a win on HoF night.

You see, there's no need to send JBJ down to Pawtucket, he can still hit AAA pitching just fine.

Once again Nava shows continuous improvement in his defensive abilities w/ that perfect outfield assist to get Wilson out of the jam. I know that only a few posters have brought it up, but Nava is so much more valuable to us than he is in any trade. I don't see Cespedes or Craig as viable backup options in RF (at Fenway), and all signs point to one of JBJ/Mookie being dealt in the offseason. With Vic projected (by me) to play maybe 30 games next season, Nava's ability to backup RF proves invaluable. We have him under team control for cheap through 2017, and at the very least he's a top notch platoon partner. Nava's been a personal favorite of mine since he came up, and seeing his continuous improvements makes me ecstatic and tells me that he has a spot on this team for the next 3 seasons.

If we have Nava under control relatively cheaply through 2017, by then he'll be 33. At that point the odds are that he will be significantly on the downside of his career, and probably no one, the Sox or anyone else, will pay him more than moderate bucks. Here is a guy who will have struggled to make it, might fashion a reasonable career, and probably won't get compensated proportionately according to today's market. Of course, this comment has to be seen in the perspective of the outrageous compensation for players in 21st century baseball, but still .....

That's another good point... and the reason the Sox should have waited on JBJ/Xander/Mookie longer. They can afford to wait for the prime of a player. With Nava, they didn't waste controlled years on a struggling player. (April this year notwithstanding) and now have him controlled through his prime (harder with a younger player like Mookie/Xander I guess). He should make a little money, and if all else fails, can always just send his wife back to medical school.
You say he's more valuable to the Red Sox than in a trade though, I disagree. He's the only one except Mookie with any real trade value right now (craig/vic/cesp/jbj all with question marks or $$$). I go back and forth on how the Sox feel, but after the way Nava got benched for Gomes last year, I don't think they believe in him all that much, and will ship him out quickly for an overpriced reliever. Frankly I think he should be the only one truly penciled into an OF spot next year.

Nava is my new Trot Nixon. Not quite as good a hitter, but should be good enough to be a starting RF on a championship team, and I could see him running 15 out of the park next year if he avoids a similar start to this year.

Ortiz will be a good mentor for Cespedes. Cespedes is more than a strong boy who hacks, and Ortiz can guide him further. No doubt here, Bradley has to realize he is not a power hitter and change his approach,- stay back and shorten swing. Sometimes hitters have to realize who they are.
Astro's catcher is good.

Yes, but he is looked OK tonight. i know its against the astros. His curveball is fantastic tonight. I hope Farrell doesn't do his usual thing and keep him in their too long and blow the game.

Tough break for Buchholz that that piece of crap got into the seats in fair territory. Ten feet to the left or right and it's either an out or a foul ball.

Buchholz threw a hittable pitch to a bad hitter either to steal a strike or to get a quick out, and got burned for it. He still looks fine out there though.

Catcher got an error because the SS doesn't have a clue.

Farrell is difficult manager for me to understand with his strategies. Why Uehara is done with 7 pitches to get 3 outs? Let's use him for one more inning. The team cannot survive with bad relievers in extra inning.
After Houston is up by 5-3, Farrell rather to lose the game like that. He screwed up. It's winnable game he allowed to slip by.

Why bring Mujica in for a 1-run game in the 8th with Tazawa & Uehara available? More evidence why they need to buy back Miller if they're serious about doing more than "fielding a competitive team," which is ownerspeak for: "If everything breaks absolutely right we could win 85 games."
