He gave up solid contact to one hitter that inning. Not exactly what I'd call 'pounded'.
Still, that's another run scored because of a walk. Can do without those.

ALMOST every pitcher. And people have done the studies. On average, a move to the pen is worth about half a run off a pitcher's ERA. It's not something you really need to lean on statistics to prove, either. Pitching out of the pen is just easier. Relievers usually only need two pitches, they don't have to face batters multiple times, they can throw everything max effort... it's not rocket science. Fen, thanks for the info. It makes sense (not rocket science) that there may be some improvement, but half a run off pitcher's era may not be significant. depending on what the pitcher's era was starting. Besides, their two pitches may be so so and just throwing max effort may not be good enough for some. Again, all depends on the pitcher, not rocket science is correct.

Apparently, Webster does not want to be outdone by Iwakuma.

Apparently, Webster does not want to be outdone by Iwakuma. Very interesting. Looks to me like he traded better control for fewer ground balls, with a lot of balls being lifted. Be nice if there was some middle ground he could work in.

Ortiz out, Kelly in to pinch run. Ortiz still feeling the effects of fouling the ball of his foot earlier. Probably will miss tomorrows game the way it looks.

So who from these pitching prospects on the roster now look promising for 2015? Seems Ruddy shows the most. Workman is a question mark but trending to the mediocre, and Webster who the hell knows. Then there is Clay. On the farm are Barnes and Ranuado, and there will be learning curves if they are here next year. Egad Sparky, not really encouraging considering we are suppose to have a wealth of pitching prospects. What am I missing here?

Tazawa coming in to a game where we're down 2 runs. I just don't get Farrell this year, their is no point to burn him out anymore. Farrell said he would not push Junichi, but he is. I don't get it.

Cecchini/Craig/Cespedes/WMB all with multi-hit games.
It's like every player I don't believe in all decided to have a good game today.

Cespedes and Betts each on base four times, Holt three times. It's about time to let Betts lead off.

Stop it, they are doing the right thing by having him bat in his present position. Do you forgot your misplaced enthusiasm for Jr. and Xander? He actually should be finishing up AAA if the Sox were not so desperate. Egad Sparky.
