The X homerun on the slider and the single to the opposite field were very encouraging. Hopefully he handles those pitches better this year cause he's going to get plenty of them.
I'm pretty excited about the lineup this year. I think there's a good chance the team fields at least an average hitter at every position this year, even considering injuries due to the depth. Catcher aside, you could argue its possible they hit 10 homers a piece from each position. Last year only 3 people on the team had more than 10.

download the MLB.TV app (its in beta for OSX/windows 8 If you have a TV with a USB port, then you might also consider getting Google's Chromecast device. It's $39.95 and it can be used in conjunction with the MLB At Bat app to stream the feed onto your TV. You do need a router with wireless capability. If you have that you should be good to go. I don't have anywhere near that bandwidth but the feed through Chromecast is very smooth. Note that I haven't signed up for MLB.tv, though I will be shortly. I do expect to use that combination to watch games. I'll let you know how it goes. I was using my Amazon Fire yesterday with all of the issues. I also have a HTPC that is hooked up to the tv that I can watch through. Or I can use the Panasonic smart app. All 3 have delays. Even when I'm getting delays, I can run a speed test and show that I'm getting the 15 megabits I'm supposed to have.

Sox go 2 for 9 with RISP today. Larry -- sometimes I wonder if you're even reading the other posts on this forum. Especially since you're always posting from your cell phone. Please stop with the spring training and/or RISP posts. They don't tell us anything, and they're a distraction to the board. From now on, I'm just going to delete them.

Off topic but does anyone know why WEEI cuts out to ESPN radio sometimes? I tried to listen to the game but it didn't work : / If you're listening online, they aren't allowed to broadcast the games online. You need the audio version of MLB TV for that.

Tried to watch my first Spring Training Game yesterday, but At Bat 15 for Android doesn't support my Nexus 10 (Android 5.0) anymore(!). It doesn't even allow you to stream via Chromecast. I do have several other not that convenient solutions (PS4, TV App, Chrome to Chromecast), but I mean, MLB.tv really?

Are staff writers and other members of this site allowed to moderate the posts of another member? Perhaps someone could provide a link for me to show that is the case. On the face of it, it seems antithetical to the website heirarchy.

On the face of it, it seems antithetical to the website heirarchy. Staff writers don't have any technical moderating power, but like any other board member, they're allowed to share their opinions so long as they aren't going overboard in trying to police the content of the board. I think it's fair for a staff writer and some regular board members to complain about RISP stats being repeatedly cited one week into ST. FWIW, the moderating team is comprised of the folks listed at the bottom of this page, as well as Chris. Mike and Matt H. have moderating power as well.

I'm perfectly happy with the moderation here. Thanks to all who do the thankless job.
Not posting about RISP should be in the terms of service.

I think all thread titles should be amended to include appropriate RISP numbers.
2015 Draft Discussion (2014 draftees have yet to produce a hit with RISP, should we even bother drafting this year?) Vazquez Pitch Framing Log (batters 0-0 with RISP on framed pitches, Vazquez's ability clearly undefined) BIG BAD MOOKIE BETTS THREAD (Mookie 10/39 with RISP in MLB career thus far, should we trade him for Justin Turner who hit .416 last year with RISP?)
Etc.

Nice side note, that game took 2 hrs 27 minutes. For the Sox, all the games this year have been well paced. Looking like a good move that's unlikely to affect the actual game play.

Good inning by Barnes: Two K's and a pop out. And now back your regularly scheduled programming. Should I be worried that our #6 starter isn't being stretched out at all, nor pitching against MLB hitters? I can't remember the last time that the Sox didn't have 6 or 8 guys going full tilt as starters during ST. While they have impressive depth 1-5 (3a-3e?) I'm not sure they have the proven lower depths they're used to in this department. Perhaps I should consider Wright the best candidate to fill in, but given schedules and last minute stuff, etc. it's usually good to have more than one guy who you're ready to throw out to pitch in Boston at a moment's notice.

The Sox first six nine-innings ST games last year averaged 3:07. So close to a 25 percent drop in the time of game. Very early and the games are meaningless so we'll see, but that's at least interesting.

Perhaps I should consider Wright the best candidate to fill in, but given schedules and last minute stuff, etc. it's usually good to have more than one guy who you're ready to throw out to pitch in Boston at a moment's notice. Otherwise, the standout performer was Barnes, the hard-throwing righty from UConn who struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit, to earn the save.
Barnes was facing mostly minor leaguers by the end, but he still made effective use of his curveball for two strikeouts.
“I mean, how can you not like the stuff?” manager John Farrell said. “It’s premium stuff that he’s shown in two outings. He got his first taste of pitching out of the bullpen last September and that’s not to say we’re looking to change his role and how we view him. We’ll take it as it comes right now.”
Farrell reiterated that the Red Sox still consider Barnes a starter, and will continue stretching him out that way.fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2015/03/09/wade-miley-matt-barnes-highlight-red-sox-victory-over-cardinals/

Thanks Phils. I misread the box-score (or it was wrong originally) and thought he had only thrown 1 inning. I'd still like to see him pitch earlier in games, and it sounds like that will happen shortly: In other news, I just realized that Craig has two options left. He's only got 4+ years of service time, so he doesn't have the Veteran's Consent requirement to option him down. I could certainly see that as an alternative if everyone is healthy (which they're not right now of course).
