I'll be at the game tonight. Seems like Buchholz pitches well every other start. Hopefully I caught him on a good game. I've been to 6 games and they've won all of them! Maybe I should go to games more often

Hey, it can't hurt. PR dream, actually. Win one steal one.

Hey, it can't hurt. PR dream, actually. You're right! Its definitely worth a shot. Tonight could also be a game in which the Sox come back from behind to win the game. I went to a game in 2011 in which they tied it in the bottom of the ninth with two outs off Rivera and won in the 10th. Another game in 2013 in which thy came back from a 4-0 deficit to go ahead 5-4, Hanrahan blew the save (it was the game he blew his arm out) and the Sox won in the 11th.

I am really hoping Clay turns it around and proves his peripherals do not lie. But part of me thinks tonight may be a night to watch basketball instead.

So if Holt in RF is going to be the plan until Victorino comes back, I ask again: what is Craig's role on the roster?

5 for 37 with 1 XBH? he doesnt have a role. Hes also 1 for 12 against Odorizzi(not that Holt has had success against him but still L vs R).
But i would guess occasional starts against lefties and occasional starts at first base.

@scottlauber: Leon, not Swihart, catching Buchholz, which makes sense given what Christian Vazquez told me yesterday - www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox_mlb/clubhouse_insider/2015/05/christian_vazquez_will_serve_as_valuable_resource_forIf anyone can relate to the head-spinning work of getting acquainted with a pitching staff, to say nothing of figuring out how to get out big-league hitters, it’s Vazquez. If Vazquez' experience was any indication, one of Swihart's toughest tasks might be getting in sync with Clay Buchholz, who throws more than a handful of pitches and likes to mix them up as much as possible. As Farrell said, "I don't think Clay is ever shy of shaking off" and "probably calls more pitches on his own than other guys in the rotation." "I think he's the tough one to get on the same page with because he runs his game," Vazquez said. "He likes to run his game. But we talk a lot about that and get on the same page to not shake too much last year. It got better." @clearthebases: Not surprised Swihart not catching Buchholz. They did not connect well their last time together, in spring training www.pressherald.com/2015/03/28/kevin-thomas-from-spring-training-buchholz-still-a-work-in-progress/

Wil Nieves DFAd. Could the Sox claim him and option Swihart to AAA?

They could, but why would they want a 37-year old catcher who has never been a regular and knows nothing of the Sox pitching staff?

So if Holt in RF is going to be the plan until Victorino comes back, I ask again: what is Craig's role on the roster? He's there to prove the Lackey trade wasn't a bust but rather a shrewd opportunity to pick up a #5 starter and a $26.5M bench player in exchange for 1.5 years of a 2.5 WAR pitcher who had approximately $4.5M left on his entire deal.

And yet every time he logs a PA it just looks worse and worse.

I'll say it until I die - the Lackey trade only makes sense if the club had reason to believe Lackey wasn't going to play out the league minimum year on the contract if he remained in Boston, and the goal was to get anything they could in return while they could.

Agreed. But look, he's playing out the contract as we speak/type/scratch our heads.
