Wow, Sandoval looking like he's having fun out there playing defense. Nice to see him putting it together a little bit.

I hate giving away outs on the basepaths.

Mookie is such a good base runner that I think he would have put up a 100 run season this year even hitting with a .320 OBP if he had some decent bats behind him in the lineup. The future looks good with him leading off.

The future looks good with him leading off. 6.8 walk rate and .287 BAPIP. Both way below his numbers at all levels including last season in MLB. Should be 10 and .320 going forward. That rises in OBP to that .370-.380 range. WOW.

I can't wait til mookie is in left and JBJ is in center (if we keep him) it's like playing a good second baseman at short. and an elite shortstop at 3rd just because.

Hanley can't even make the routine plays, just awful. It's sickening watching him play the field.

Glad Hanley is out there in the 7th. Blown game, thanks Hanley.

Duke makes me hope that Rich Hill is teaching Escobar a thing or two.

We need to avoid winning too much to jeopardize our protected draft pick status. I wish I was joking but im not.
Now, the development of our core players is far more than any draft pick but if someone like Machi or Breslow blows a game I really have no problem with it.

Stealing a great quote from a few years back made about Iglesias' defensive highlights, watching JBJ play the outfield is baseball porn.

Another slow hook, this time with a atruggling Miley, again costs us a win. Hanley, too, but Miley could have come oit after losing his stuff and giving up a run or two.

If you remember early in the season when he was awful, it wasn't because he looked like he had lost range; it was because very playable balls were literally bouncing off his glove.

Brian MacPherson @brianmacp 11m11 minutes ago Lovullo said trying Ramirez out at first base hadn't been discussed before Dombrowski came on board last week. That's an indictment of Cherington, for sure, because it's such an obvious move. Further thoughts in the "What do you do with Hanley" thread.

The contrast between Ramirez and Bradley in the outfield is jarring. That can't be alien to Dombrowski, the guy has eyes after all. Games are being lost out there. This will end badly for Hanley I believe.

Hanley appeared unable to get his glove all the way down on that ball. I would, too, but have four decades on Hanley and, to quote Don and Gerry, have to contend with a bit of a boiler. Is his Inflexibility due to workout/lifting regimen? He will need some more flexibility to succeed at 1B, and he will have plenty of time over the next 6 months to accomplish that.
IMO, If Hanley can play 1B well AND HIT again, he has more overall value to the team than potential targets Chris Davis or Joey Votto. If he plays about 100G at 1B, backed by Shaw, and backed Papi at DH 20-30G, and pinch hit the rest of the way, he could contribute substantially.. He didn't contribute much tonight, but hope springs eternal.

I'm not defending Hanley. He's been a disaster and an embarassment. There's usually a reason for a big fall-off. I think his off-season weightlifting was way too much of a body change for a baseball player. He went from an infielder to looking like Donte Hightower. His baseball skills have suffered. He prob has played with a bad shoulder too after running into the wall like a linebacker might do.

Brian MacPherson @brianmacp 11m11 minutes ago Lovullo said trying Ramirez out at first base hadn't been discussed before Dombrowski came on board last week. I find this incredible. I mean that in the original sense of the word, that it is so outlandish it's not even credible. Maybe it wasn't discussed with Hanley, so Lovullo says that to make Hanley feel better? Or Lovullo wasn't in on the discussion? Neither of those make much sense either, but moving Hanley to first was such an obvious move I was treating it as a given. How could this not have been discussed?
