Very, very interesting that Hannigan is flashing signs like there is a runner on 2B when there isn't. They have to believe that someone is stealing signs in CF again.

There's been at least 4 poor defensive plays by the Red Sox (and one outstanding one by Shaw). If Sandoval were starting, arguably would be the worst defensive infield in the majors

The lack of pitching drafting and development over the last 5- 10 years has been a real problem.

I think it's time to talk with Brock about a contract. They could probably get him fairly cheap. Offer 4 years at 24 - 30 million. Is that fair? He's a valuable player.

That's not completely fair. It was John Henry's decision not to resign Lester (or at least that is what has been reported), and that decision (it has been reported) put the Red Sox in the position of needing to also trade Lackey. What isn't known is (a) whether a solid prospect package was available (it should have been) and (b) if it was, whether it was Cherington or Henry who felt a need to acquire players who could help immediately -- a condition which would have greatly lowered the potential return. Based on their past histories, I would bet it was Henry who wanted to win immediately without committing to a long-term deal for a pitcher, which, given the Red Sox inability to develop pitching, would have been very difficult to do. Any assessment of Cherington, I think, has to be made with this in mind.
