I know it's only the third game but Matt Barnes might be ready to make the next step

That's not completely fair. It was John Henry's decision not to resign Lester (or at least that is what has been reported), and that decision (it has been reported) put the Red Sox in the position of needing to also trade Lackey. What isn't known is (a) whether a solid prospect package was available (it should have been) and (b) if it was, whether it was Cherington or Henry who felt a need to acquire players who could help immediately -- a condition which would have greatly lowered the potential return. Based on their past histories, I would bet it was Henry who wanted to win immediately without committing to a long-term deal for a pitcher, which, given the Red Sox inability to develop pitching, would have been very difficult to do. Any assessment of Cherington, I think, has to be made with this in mind. Gamethread bro This is no place for rational thinking hehe

So does Ortiz really have to retire? Can he take back his word before all the gifts?

Really Farrell?
Pitch hit for Shaw, but not for Hanigan with the bases loaded....
Jesus christ.

I mean I like Young for Shaw, but why not Swihart for Hanigan?

Seriously, I wish John Farrell would just disappear from Major League Baseball.

Once again, we see how dysfunctional this roster is; I imagine Rusney won't last this weekend

I haven't checked yet to see if the home plate umprire has been consistently bad or inconsistently bad, but safe to say he's not been good.
Robo umps now please. One employment sector in the world I'm fully joy with replacing the workers with machine. We can still have umps make the calls on the basepaths, pending review. And to oil the robots when needed.

Mookie refuses to walk; saw 6 pitches, 5 out of zone. I don't get what he's doing

He's a natural RHH, he learned hitting LH later in HS and in the Minors he always hit for better power RH.

That's one hell of a lineup that our pen just dominated. This could be a fun year.

How about some props for Noe Ramirez? Things calmed right down as soon as he showed up.
