Man when he commands the fastball he is literally unhittable.

9 pitch save, 2 K's, heater at 100 How's Margot doing again? OPSing .771 with a 9/10 BB/K in May. Pretty good if you ask me.

Kimbrel lighting up the radar gun with 100 mph heat and the absolutely grimy spike curve...
I think Margot's hitting like .270 though. Lol

It almost sounds like we gave up a good player to get a good player in return.

The Margot thing is starting to get a little weird.

It almost sounds like we gave up a good player to get a good player in return. Which is good if you're not also giving up a bunch of other potentially good players and a bucket of money. But I think that has been mentioned before.

Another streak to watch: Bogey at 16, if I checked right.

Man, it's going to be odd when Papi is sending back all those gifts this winter.

No,I meant what I said. 5Ks, 1BB, 5 2/3 innings and 5 hits. One bad inning, that was it. The ugly is in your eyes, thanks. Exactly. The ugly was in my eyes. I watched the game. He struggled to locate all day, he hit 2 batters. He gave up numerous hits and a walk to guys after he got to 2 out/2 strike situations. It wasn't a very good outing. It was a good result though. He gave up two hits with two strikes and two outs, if that's what you mean by "numerous" (a Uribe double and a Kipnis single, both in the second inning) and two walks - not one, as you said - with two outs and two strikes (Santana in the second and Uribe in the sixth). This stuff is incredibly easy to look up.

While you guys are bickering about the Kimbrel-Margot et al trade (as if 70 pages weren't enough elsewhere), I'd just like to say this was a great series win!

Speier tweeted that Ortiz is on pace for 114 XBH, which would be 3rd all-time behind Ruth's 119 in 1921 and Gehrig's 117 in 1927.
The man is 40 years old!

It almost sounds like we gave up a good player to get a good player in return. You mean we're not supposed to get something for nothing? I thought every scrap heap addition is supposed to turn into David Ortiz, and every free agent signing is supposed to produce like Manny Ramirez, and every trade is supposed to give you Pedro Martinez in his prime. Who knew?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this 3 straight Sundays where Ortiz is being flat out ridiculous?
I think two Sundays ago he got his revenge against the NY crowd and shut them up with two mammoth homers (to toe and pass Mel Ott and join Ernie Banks and Eddie Matthews).
Then last Sunday he got his triple to tie the Astros game with two outs and got a flour bath for his game winning (600th career) double in the 11th.
And this Sunday, he merely goes 4-4 with an intentional walk, and misses the cycle because his sure triple into the triangle hits the padding, defies gravity, and ricochets right into the bullpen.
So what's he doing next Sunday? Hitting 5 home runs in a game?

Mookie is on pace for a 30 / 30 season steals and HR. It seems to me that he is trying to hit for more power, and that's one of the reasons why I think a drop to the #3 slot is better, or somewhere down in the lineup to maximize the benefits of that pop. He's no longer a lead off type hitter as compared to the higher OBP guys we have. And he has been a decent RBI guy considering where he has hit in the lineup. He and JBJ are tied for 2nd on this team in RBI. They have evolved as hitters. They are probably middle of the order types right now. Teams are even walking JBJ intentionally rather than pitch to him for the past few days.
When we have so many young guys like the Killer B's it would seem their best days are probably still ahead of them, ergo some shifting in the lineup just as they change as hitters. My guess is Betts does better than his existing BABIP going forward. And recently he has been performing very well offensively. How many 30 HR guys hit leadoff?
I gotta say I agree on Shaw. Balls he would have cleaned out earlier he missed today. I also sense Vasquez feeling some heat from the Swihart call up. Just a complete guess though. What happens to the Sox if they do change the strike zone taking away that low strike? Guys like Porcello and Vasquez lose some value to me.
I like Barnes stuff when he's on but his control stunk today. I'd keep trying to develop him though because he could be what we wanted out of Carson if he could get his control problems fixed. He's still a stud.

This stuff is incredibly easy to look up. He had one walk and, as you mentioned, two hits with two strikes, both in the second inning. Porcello gave up one hit over the last 3 2/3 innings, the only base runner during that stretch. Sometimes I wonder if people are even watchimg the same game I am.

I agree with what you're saying about Mookie may not be not being the typical lead-off hitter. However I feel like if it ain't broke don't fix it, ya know? JBJ seems so totally comfortable in the spot he's in with this line-up, and I feel like having him lower in the line-up takes some pressure off of him and could play a large role in his massive (and slightly shocking) success so far this year. I say when the line-up hits a bit of a rut, and everyone seems to be pressing, that's the best time to shake up a lineup. I'm not a manager though and thus it's a humble opinion. There's also the very fair argument that moving Mookie adds a lot of value a few spots lower. A lot more RBI's. Very fair. I just love that super-athlete a the top of the line-up.

Watching the highlights of today's game gives me real pause about the ball being juiced this year -- and my evidence is Ortiz's two ground rule doubles. The first hit in front of the bullpen and bounced completely OVER the bullpen and a few rows up into the stands. Then the one in the last AB hits the wall facing the bullpen and caroms like a superball into the pen. Those bounces sure looked suspiciously lively to me.

Xander is almost being overlooked with what JBJ has been doing. Xander is a hitting machine. When the power comes...oh boy.
