That is what happened, but it didn't look as if he was trying to avoid the pitch so much as he was fooled by it. It was obvious that it hit his bat, also.

I gotta say, if we were told Buchholz would give us 6 innings and 3 ERs we'd probably all signed on for it, but this feels like a chasm. The worst pitcher in baseball with a quality start! Let's get some bats going now. If he were actually just bad, he would be easy to deal with. He's allowed a 1022 OPS the first time around the order and c. 678 afterwards. He's allowed a 1272 OPS in high leverage situations and c. 721 otherwise. He's allowed a HR in ... 1.6% of his PA with the bases empty 3.7% of his PA with a runner on 10.0% of his PA with 2 runners on 100.0% of his PA with the bases full. He is a bad pitcher. All the above is nice....maybe the Sox should petition MLB to only score games with the above parameters that work in his favor. There aren't any other options...it seems...so he shouldn't go anywhere. But he is a bad pitcher...and people are sick of it.

No friggin clue how major league hitters are ever tempted to swing at balls that friggin bounce before homeplate. It's absurd. Baseball must be hard to play (or so my sources say). FTFY.

Wonder when the last time a batter was IBB in the second inning of a scoreless game with 2 outs and one on?

Let's just pretend that singalong segment didn't just happen.
Oh my.

Kelly looks good so far. Throwing strikes, missing bats, only gave up solid contact once (hard grounder to Hanley).
Hope he keeps it up.

JBJ is ready for a promotion. He should be batting somewhere 1-3. Not sure Farrell will move him there.

That's the Buchholz effect. Just like starting a fastballer after a knucker makes it look faster, starting any pitcher right after Buchholz makes them seem smarter, more composed and more competent.

I'll never get tired of how the ball comes off Mookie's bat on hits like that.

Love them artificially inflating JBJ's OBP. Thanks, Tito.

Bauer tried to sneek a 95 mph fastball in on Betts. Another guy who hasn't gotten the memo yet.

Not sure how Bogaerts scored on that Hanley single. Did he really think that didn't have a good chance of being caught?

Not sure how Bogaerts scored on that Hanley single. Did he really think that didn't have a good chance of being caught? On the replay, he kind of held up for a bit, then started running just as it was going over the fielder's glove and still scored...I think it's just another example of his really good baserunning.

This is why hitting streaks don't usually last long.

This is why hitting streaks don't usually last long. Doesn't help when your manager bats a .180 hitter behind the hottest hitter in baseball.
