Whoa there. Hopefully the Sox will find a way to win at least one game. But seriously, with the brutal schedule coming up, the Sox probably need to bank as many wins as they can in the immediate future. There figure to be some rough stretches over the next couple of months.

"This team isn't playing good baseball, its not sustainable"
- Zo and Bertrand.
Its getting really old how the Boston media thinks its trendy to bash the Red Sox.

Wow those Minnesota starters are just terrible. How is Jose Berrios still in the minors?

"This team isn't playing good baseball, its not sustainable" - Zo and Bertrand. Its getting really old how the Boston media thinks its trendy to bash the Red Sox. You've got two choices. You can contact them and tell them they're fools, and stoke that noise machine, or you can stop listening. The only "trend" they care about is where they're trending in listenership. That's you, if you lend them your ears.

How is Jose Berrios still in the minors? The Twins don't trust their young players.

Again, we miss a teams #1 starter (Santana). Also, we keep taking about their "brutal" schedule coming up, I know they have to go the left coast twice. It's just that they're playing some bad teams out there. SD (who just traded their #1 starter), Oak, LAA. Even the Dodgers have a depleted SP staff.

Matt Barnes is better right now than any potential acquisitions. 7-8-9 of Barnes, Ziggy and Kimbrel. Tazawa and Ross getting us there ain't shabby. I really feel Joe Kelly is where he should be and will help too. Layne's our LOOGY. Buchholz place on roster depends on E-Rod's performance.

The Twins don't trust their young players. Probably doesn't help that his ERA is double that of any of the guys going for them in this series. In 15 innings. In 90 Triple-A innings, he has a 2.42 ERA, and in his last six starts he has a 1.08 ERA and a .163/.232/.255 opposing line. I'm willing to bet he's better than Tyler Duffey. Just watch what you all say about Tommy Milone. Tommy Milone is my boy.

Keep it rolling. This team goes from incredible to impossible to watch to brilliantly entertaining again. Odd season.
First place feels nice.

Xander is hitting just .231/.311/.319 (68 wRC+) over the last 30 days. His strikeout and walk numbers are still fine, so it looks like mostly BABIP, but the power is also way down. Something to watch.
On the other side of the coin-- Hanley is hitting .342/.442/.685 (193 wRC+) over his last 30 days. Even ignoring last night's performance, it's a 139 wRC+ over the last month, with big bumps in walk rate and power. A nice Hanley hot streak would be nice to put some distance between the Red Sox and the rest of the division.

A lot of the orioles are sick according to their radio broadcast. They're probably tired of seeing them run out middle relievers as starting pitchers. Even when they get a good start (Gausman the other night) they can't score more than 1 run on Ivan Nova. They may have hit that wall.

One thing i like about this series is we start off a 4 game set with a knuckleballer. Not sure how rare it is for a 4 game series that gets started off with a knuckleballer but it feels rare to me. Hopefully there is a knuckleball affect.

Sox now have the 4th best chance of making the playoffs, according to both BP (86.3%) and FG (90.1%). BP has our WS odds as 4th best (9.7%), trailing the Indians, Cubs, and Nationals, while FG has us at 12.9% trailing only the Cubs, just ahead of the Indians and Nationals.
My adjusted projected standings have the other three teams in a a group by themselves, with us at the head of a 7-team pack of other legit contenders, but of course that doesn't include expected improvements based on roster changes. This is shaping up as a likely 4-way battle. They have the Blue Jays and Dodgers with the best chances at crashing the party.
Given who runs the Cubs and who manage the Indians, it looks there ought to be someone to root for in the WS. Assuming the odds of getting to the WS are double the odds of winning it, BP has a 68% chance that either the Red Sox, Indians, or Cubs are in the Series, while FG has it at 64%.
Odds of an epic Sox-Cubs WS? BP 7%, FG 9%.
Meanwhile, Yankee playoff odds are up to 11.5% (BP) / 10.3% (FG). Keep all those good players!

Given who manages the Cubs it should be easy to find someone to root for - their opponents.

Given who manages the Cubs it should be easy to find someone to root for - their opponents. I agree, I can't stand Maddon. Yet at the same time I like Theo very much and Jon Lester is my favorite Sox ever so it is both easy and hard to root against them at the same time.

Lester took the money and ran so I really see no reason to root for him anymore than Papelbon. At least Papelbon was honest about why he left.
There is also Dave Roberts managing the Dodgers, although they still have Gonzalez. I'd root for pretty much anyone in the NL over the Cubs.

Given who manages the Cubs it should be easy to find someone to root for - their opponents. Agree, for some subliminal reason, I can't pull for the Cubs. May or may not be Maddon. Lackey not wanting to play for us @ minimum. Lester/Theo, probably a combination. I'll root for Tito if the Sox aren't in it.

This is the most asinine thing I have ever heard. “@chriscarlinsny: Rob Manfred just told us he would consider limiting the number of pitching changes in the game. Thinks it hurts pace of game.”

He should be in the big leagues, despite his lack of success in the chances he's been given. Although, on the other side of the coin, lots of people here wanted to crucify Joe Kelly earlier in the year for about 20 innings. I know most of the posters with a brain had criticisms not based solely on those innings, but there are also a lot of posters here without brains.

Given who manages the Cubs it should be easy to find someone to root for - their opponents. No need for that, Maddon is absolutely never winning a World Series. You can book it.
