We need to bring up Kelly. Don't wait till Sept 1st. That's 3 more games with the same BP that has not been working lately. Do something, even if it's wrong.

I did mention it may or may not pan out. I've tried to stay positive, but the bullpen is broken. Try anything at this point.

Counterpoint: All of those awesome 15-inning stretches Kelly had in the majors which didn't turn out to mean anything.
I'd still call him up though.

Those previous MLB stretches were mostly BABIP, though. This latest stretch might still be an illusion, but a healthy bump in strikeout rate makes me (slightly) more optimistic.

He's had short stretches of missing a lot of bats in the majors too though. I think he profiles well for the role and that they should try it given the need and his results, but I understand the skepticism totally.

Do we even have anyone else? Honest question, could guys like Shepherd or Robby Scott help?

Anyone have thoughts on a few Pawtucket arms that don't get discussed much, but are putting up some good stats - Haley, Martin, and as mentioned above, Scott and Shepherd?

I think it's fair to call the bullpen mediocre-- other than Kimbrel, with Uehara's (and Smith's) injuries and Tazawa's decline, there's no one in the bullpen that you can reasonably project to be a sub-3.00 ERA guy.
But I wouldn't call it a terrible bullpen, either. Projection systems project guys like Ziegler, Ross, Barnes, even Hembree and Abad to be in the 3.00 to 4.00 ERA range, which would be average to above-average reliever performance. No, those guys aren't a shutdown lot, but they'll still get the job done more often than not, and I'd still much rather go to any of them (especially with the favorable platoon split) than trust a tiring starter going through the fourth time in the order.

Kelly will be up on September 1 and may be useful in high-leverage situations, or at the very least will help soak up mid- and low-leverage innings (like the ones two nights ago-- why were Ross and Ziegler pitching with a six run lead?). But guys like Shepherd or Scott shouldn't be getting reps ahead of guys like Hembree and Abad, and certainly not outside of garbage time.

I wonder what his pitch mix is like now.

Unbelievable how bad of a baserunner Hanley is. Baseball intelligence will never be his strength. I've loved his effort and attitude this year, but that just is what it is.

Great AB by Holt. Didn't like the decision to send Leon. Had the bases loaded with the best hitters in the lineup coming up.

Not sure of what happened with that shift but Shaw playing 2b should of had the ground ball. Now they have a big inning going.
