Hey look, the most predictable result of anything ever. Still not sure why Buchholz is preferable to Buchholz in this spot but whatever. They brutally blew this game.

Every loss to the Tampa Bay Rays is so head-scratchingly frustrating. These guys stink.

It seems like every mistake Buchholz makes goes 450 feet this year. Dude can't get a break.

As usual on a day where Farrell announces that Buchholz will be the 8th inning man, the genius move pays off immediately.

You know baseball games have nine innings, right? I know that, but by the way John Farrell uses his relievers, I'm not sure he knows that. What is the mythological Clay Buchholz relief-act built on? Did he have a 1-2-3 appearance at some point along the line?

I mean when four of the options in your bullpen are Buchholz, Abad, Barnes, and Tazawa, its kinda tough to trust anyone. Yet Farrell continues to screw up on top of the terrible options. Buchholz pitched yesterday.
Last time Ziegler pitched was Aug 27th in an 8-3 victory. But nah, don't use him there. John Farrell has absolutely ZERO clue how to manage an MLB bullpen. None. Zilch. Nada. Continues to cost this team games, consistently.
edit: grandsalami with the news that Zielger has been sick, but I can say the same thing for Kimbrel now that we see him pitching in the 9th in a losing game.

Yeah Ross stunk in his last appearance, but he could of done better than what Buchholz just did in that inning.
Keep in mind Buchholz just threw 29 pitches yesterday.
Farrell is just guessing at this point. His managing skills are some of the worst in baseball, if not the worst.

Longoria has been absolutely killing us. But predictable. Asking a just-converted SP to throw 29 pitches last night and then bring him back tonight tells you all you need to know about this bullpen. It really is tough to see how the Sox make the playoffs. When they face the rest of the AL East the last 3 weeks of the season, how in the world are they going to get the last 6-9 outs in those ballgames? Toronto, the O's, and even the revitalized Yankees are going to eat up this staff. The only hope we've got is 7-8 inning starts from the rotation, somehow figure out a way to mix and match in the 8th when we have to, and hope that K can come up big in the 9th.

Farrell is willing to use Kimbrel down 1 in the 9th, but not against the heart of the Rays' order in a tie game in the 8th.

While that's the correct strategic move, I don't think there's a manager in the game who brings in their closer there. Have to imagine the idea catches on at some point though. But baseball can be slow to change.

Too much lately, this team seems to just shrink when they lose the initiative (i.e. the lead).

Longoria has been absolutely killing us. Since his rookie year. If it wasn't for himSox would've won the division in 08.

Opportunity just sitting there with Toronto losing, and again they're struggling with a last place team.
