Uehara will be the closer before the postseason is over anyway. With days off he should be able to go in 3 out of every 4 games if needed.

SEA loses in extra innings and is eliminated from the WC race. If BAL and/or TOR lose on Sunday and DET wins, then CLE and DET will need to play on Monday, regardless of BOS-TOR and CLE-KC results. Reset for Sunday (assuming SEA comes back to win; a SEA loss would eliminate them): TEX has clinched top seed. BOS has the tiebreaker over CLE for the #2 seed but is 0.5 game back entering Sunday. A BOS win and a CLE loss on Sunday will set BOS as the #2 seed vs. CLE. A CLE win and a BOS loss on Sunday will set CLE as the #2 seed vs. BOS. Otherwise, the seeding will not be finalized until Monday. BAL(@ MFY) and TOR(@ BOS) are tied for the wild card spots and control their playoff destinies. If both win on Sunday, TOR will host BAL on Tuesday in the WC game, with the winner to play TEX in the ALDS. If one or both lose, SEA(vs. OAK) and/or DET(@ ATL) can jump into a potential tiebreaker scenario. SUN: CLE@KC (Tomlin), TOR@BOS (Price) MON: CLE@DET (TBD, only if affects playoff spot or seeding)ALDS begins Thursday. Projected rotations for BOS/CLE: G1 (THU): Bauer vs. Porcello G2 (FRI): Kluber vs. Price G3 (SUN): Tomlin vs. Buchholz/Rodriguez G4 (MON): Bauer vs. Rodriguez/Buchholz G5 (WED): Kluber vs. Porcello

Kimbrel is worthless. Any pitcher who can not throw strikes is worthless. They might as well bring back Bard. Kimbrel is clearly one of those people who can not perform on the big stage. And certainly not in Boston. Yet he's saved over 90% of his games, has a Whip of 1.09 has allowed only 28 hits in 53 innings with 83 K. What would you have written if what you wrote was actually true?

Kimbrel would probably be completely fine if it wasn't for the pressure fans and media put on him He's gonna be fine and when he shits people down in the playoffs people will forget this. Can't believe that he feels more pressure from media/fans than a tie or one-run game in the ninth. Either way, any guy in yhat spot needs a "gimme the ball andget outta my way" attitude. And the ability to throw strikes consistently.

“@brianmacp: To Carl Willis, the trouble for Craig Kimbrel is posture-related, getting too rotational, missing too often to his glove side.” “@jmastrodonato: Kimbrel says it’s a minor adjustment he’s made plenty of times this year. Not concerned. Willis: ”it’s an adjustment he can make quickly“” really...if it is an easy fix...why isn't he doing it now or didn't he do it tonight? I am gonna pray that this isn't some bullspit here. We are definitely going to need A game Kimbrel for the postseason. Willis is the perfect pitch coach for JF. He watched those bad mechanics for a week before noticing them or doing anything, just like JF waited a half-season before promoting Robbie Ross from a mop-up role. There are pitching coaches who notice a mechanical flaw like that two batters into the first inning where it happened. It took Willis 3 outings and 13 batters, during which time Kimbrel had a 22.50 ERA, 11.14 FIP, 13.65 xFIP, 14.21 SIERA, and -.67 WPA, which is to say, essentially the entire difference between leading for home field over the Indians and trailing.

Thanks, wasn't clear if both teams won, if they'd have to settle the half game difference on Monday.

Patriots shut out and the the Red Sox are getting No Hit! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? July 20, 1958. First game of a doubleheader. I was in the park, sitting in the right field bleachers with my father and Uncle Bob that day -- the last time the Sox were no-hit in Fenwway Park. I was only 10 years old, but I can remember lots of details from that game. Jim Bunning almost gave up a HR to Gene Stephens as the leadoff batter in the first inning, but Al Kaline reached into the stands to pull in his fly ball near the Pesky Pole. Ted was the last batter in the 9th, and hit a long fly to right. The crowd initially roared, thinking Ted had hit one to break up the no-hitter, but Ted slammed his bat down, and the crowd went quiet while the ball was still in the air. Ted knew he hadn't gotten enough of it. Kaine caught the ball 5 feet in front of the fence to end the game.

This team is going into the postseason on the wrong foot. Kimbrell has looked awful the last three appearances, Price hasn't been sharp the last couple of outings, and the team could be about to lose five of the last six games, possibly no hit in the sixth game.
Hopefully they are just in sleepwalk mode until the postseason starts. But I would rather go into the playoffs on a high note.

Forget what Cleveland does.
Going into the postseason losing 5 of 6....is so god damn typical of this team.

Nothing particularly wrong with the way Price pitched today, though he wasn't dominant. But so be it. I get the impression that the Sox are pretty much playing out the string in this game.
